We rented a taxi and visited this fresh water lake, 700 m above sea level. There are spectacular panoramic views at the top. We were lucky as it was clear! We heard that often the crater lake is misted in and the views are limited...More

This has been my research site and so I am biased, but the lake is spectacular so long as it is not cloudy (then you can't even see that there is a lake). The only permanent freshwater lake in the islands. Great walk (easy) around...More

I'm not a huge nature person (or into hiking up mountains), but this lake hidden on top of a mountain simply took my breath away. I could sit there and stare for it for hours and not get bored- super relaxing and almost mystical.

I'd suggest a guided tour. The views are really impressive. You'll have to walk up the mountain which is maybe a ten minute climb. The weather is a good bit cooler than in town, too. At the top, you can see almost all over the...More

El Junco is a freshwater ancient caldera lake that is what caused San Cristobal to be the first Galapagos island to be settled. Takes 30 to 60 minutes to hike all the way around it, depending on your pace. If it's misty/raining, it's hard to...More

There is quite a climatic difference as you drive from the town up to this nearby volcanic crater. The hot sunny day was replaced by cool winds and misty rain. The walk around the crater was interesting though in spots the track was a bit...More

Nice little lagoon to watch the birds. It is not spectacular or very beautiful. You can walk around it and look at some birds. The weather here is almost always misty so the views aren't going to be special either. Often included in a day...More
