Overview
More
The Croatian Museum of Tourism was established in 2007 and its headquarters were purposefully located in Opatija - the city where Croatian tourism was born and whose growth was completely intertwined with tourism. This unique museum collects, investigates and displays objects and stories that bear witness to the rich history of tourism in Croatia, but it also raises the question of how tourism today affects all of us - how our cities are changing, as well as how we change by traveling and welcoming travelers. The museum has three locations in the center of Opatija - villa Angiolina and Swiss House in the Angiolina Park and Juraj Sporer Art Pavilion in St. Jacob’s Park.

Croation museum of tourism is located in one of the most beautiful villas in Opatija , in villa Angiolina. Together with the park Angiolina it presents the symbol of Opatija. The exhibition about the history of villais very interesting.

Supposedly this is were tourism started with a private villa of a very social host. There are some photos and some paintings, but the house and the park are the main attraction.

We are not museum people, but this cute little stop is worth a quick look. Gives a nice little overview of the history of the region, with some nice artifacts and photos of the region.

We were there in November and noticed there was no cenral heating. It was chilly while wandering, but one learns about the local area.

Very interesting. However, Opatija needs to advertise this and it's sister museum in the Villa Angiolina much better! Very few signs about and no brochure or flier in hotel. We found by chance and thought it was closed as no signage and door very stiff....More

Set within beautiful gardens, this is a very interesting museum. We have visited Croatia the last 2 years and love it. We are so impressed with how the country has recovered from the war and how it has developed tourism so well. We intend coming...More

A sweet look at how Opatija became the riviera it is now, a lovely trip down memory lane and good to see the old and new at the Swiss Cottage, a part of the museum. Worth the 7 Kune entry.
