We went there during a hot day by riding the guided tour boats. We had a great view of the ancient government houses and also did some shopping too. The stuff there was cheaper than in Shanghai if you are a good bargain person.

Visiting this area and participating in the canal cruise is just something a tourist must do so they can brag it to their friends they did it. Posters of tours and guide books always highlight this ancient canal so I guess you must do it...More

Travel into the yesteryear of traditional China. The central area is also very cosmopolitan with French influence, wonderful cafes with artists painting on their canvas along cobblestone pavements.

What a wonderful experience to see this great place . With homes on both sides of the Grand Canal . The very friendly people waving to all the folk on the boat.
