It is a short walking distance from the hubu valley walking street. The residence provides glimpses into the living of Chairman Mao when he stayed in Wuhan. A must see for all history lovers.

I wouldn't call this place a must visit because it's just like an older 10 baker st in london residence...nothing too special because there are much more interesting things to see. However, if you're a big fan of Mao, then you need to go there and check it out. His place was quite messy but it's better now.

There is not a lot to see in this small former residence of Mao Zedong, that appears to be in a neighborhood (rather than a park) so it is not a main attraction. It is within walking distance of the Wuchang Uprising Memorial. If you are close and like seeing historical places I recommend taking a few minutes to walk through the residence, but I would not make a special trip to see it.

This is well worth a visit for the history and the thought of the huge and luxurious estate that Mao was enjoying at a tumultuous time in China's history. You can even see his luxury car. A wander around extensive gardens is a nice get away from busy Wuhan.

Wuhan is home to the famous Chairman Mao. The residence is situated amidst residential buildings n took us quite sometime to find. From Hubu Alley, we followed the sign n walked for nearly 1/2hr as the signs do not specify the distance to the site. After walking into the alley beside a garden, we managed to find this place, which is more popular among the China mainlanders. The residence is well preserved and showcased basic household items. There's also an area with photos n description depicting the earlier years of chairman Mao. All in all, this is an interesting n historical walkabout.

Although the setting was not really stunning in any way, it was amazing to experience the setting in which Mao lived and to sit on furniture where he once sat. Given the impact that he had on China and on the entire world, it is amazing to be able to visit here.

You can sit in a chair that Mao probably sat in, view his living quarters, and enjoy the unique Chinese architecture of the period. Down the same street in a separate museum are interesting photos from this same era, which enhance the historic significance of this part of the city.

With time to spare before our evening flight to Guangzhou (Canton), we were now given a choice of visiting either the Yellow Crane Pavilion or Chairman Mao's Villa. Because the former involved an entrance fee and much climbing, our weary group opted for the villa.
.
In Communist nations, everyone is equal – but some are a lot more equal than others – as evidenced by Chairman Mao's luxurious villa, complete with a tennis court, large indoor swimming pool, and several old color television sets which had been state-of-the-art at the time of his death.
.
The lavishly-decorated rooms in his villa illustrate how Mao – a "man of the people" – somehow didn't quite enjoy the same standard of living as the ordinary Chinese family.
