Never seen a chinese temple like this. Gothic style like a cathedral yet, all the statues are chinese. The place is not a tourist hot site, so it’s relatively quiet when I went.

I am a native of Wuhan, and I often take some foreign guests to visit Wuhan. For me, Gude Temple of Hankou is: Founded in 1877, Gude Temple perfectly mixes the characteristics of Eurasian religious architecture, and integrates three major Buddhist sects, Mahayana, Mahayana and Tibetan, which is rare in Han Buddhist temple. Gude temple is located in the residential buildings. It has been hidden in the downtown for more than 100 years. Without the local people, it is difficult to find. There are no crowded pilgrims here, only a sense of dislocation across time and space.

Peaceful place where the locals go to pray to Buddha. The place is very nice and calm. There are monks living here.

This maybe the only Buddhist temple you'd have seen that is unlike any other throughout China.

The entire compound is not dirty, but very messy - don't know why?

Should you need or desire a nice quite peaceful isolated meditation area free of 95% people , then here's yer place.
Not many if any of the daily people filling the city come into this Sanctuary.
If you have ever wondered why you never see Shaolin nuns in the movies or ever see the nuns elsewhere with monks .... all answers are here grasshopper !
I like history and here is the or one of the foundation blocks of Nuns. Flowers of purity pond , Temple beginnings , life as Nuns begin and continue I suppose .
The cost is minimal , should be more if not just for support ! The buildings and grounds are in a phase of renovation I think .
There is water available , as well incense to pay ones respects to past relatives or anyone .
Certainly not a tourist attraction in the sense of new generation peoples but very important none the less !
Worth all the time in this world and the next !

Not really a hot spot and difficult to find. The temple is crammed between buildings and there is not much to see for tourists. The architecture is strange, it is built after 1900 and looks like one of these churches. Inside there are the same Buddha figures as in all other temples.

There are many classic building there
I like the design there and there are many statues but the problem is a little difficult to find it if you can't speak Chinese because you have to ask people to tell the way to there

i'm a local and would recommend this site for a one or two hours visit. The temple is not tourism developed and sits quietly among the local resident buildings. nice choice to visit it before sunset, as it's not very big and the inner part is very simple, so have a walk around the yard and take some pictures of the temple building, then you could take a taxi to Wuhan Xin Tiandi or riverside of Yangz River nearby for evening entertainment and dinner.

The Gude Buddhist Temple was built in 1877, then rebuilt in 1921. It is said that the temple was built according to style of the Alantuo Temple in Myanmar.

It is a very unique Buddhist temple in China, combining the western, Indian and Burmese architectural styles. Even you can see the Ionic order-like capital of columns.

The architectural style is an erratic combination, but very beautiful. Though not a popular tourist spot, it is highly recommended for Buddhists, art lovers and architecture buffs.

It's easy to miss the entrance, and even my Chinese friends were surprised at how "tucked-away" this location is. They have recently added an entrance fee but you receive incense to burn when paying. There are a couple of shops selling mostly Buddhist-related items as well as a hotel for travelers. Incense troughs scent the air. There is an old temple which is quite a mix in styles but rich in decoration and tradition. The new temple is much simpler, in a modern style but larger, and the monks live on the upper floors. There are smaller temple rooms around the complex. On Saturdays, there is a food market that sets up at the entrance--try the fish balls--quite good.
