Just look at the pictures I have attached to this review, and I hope you'll be there.
Yes, indeed at sunrise it is awfully crowded! BUT not at Sunset!
Sunrise is even worse than you think: there is no guarantee that after having woken up at 4am and walked with a torch light to the left pond, you'll have a clear sky.
Yes, a cloudy sky happens more than often and bye bye the traditional picture.

And if you are lucky to have a clear sky, then each and every other tourist steps in front of you to take his own but so unoriginal picture, even if it means spoiling yours.
Yes, using your elbows might be the only option there and then.

Nothing like that at sunset.
You don't have to wake up early (and being dead tired the whole day)
You know before going there if the weather will be clear and sunny.
And there is enough space for every one at the right pond.
Again, look at the pictures.

So yes, this is a must see at Siam Reap, absolutely appropriate after a long day walk, when you're tired and wish to appreciate the sun set (like this guy meditating on one of my pics)....

ENJOY!

Like sunrise, sunset definately is one of the recommended things to do while in Angkor wat complex. though there is a limit on numbers of allowed visit to top, which made us to just hover outside main area and lead to little waste of time.
In case planning, make sure to reach sunset point atleast 1 hour before.

Too many people! It's a wonderful cultural treasure but there are simply too many people crowding the place.

If you love nature, you might not want to miss this spectacular view of Sunset from the top of the hill, please note there is a limitation on the capacity to be allowed to be on top, ensure you arrive early to miss long queues and also chance of missing the entry.

All day we had sunshine, hot and sauna like conditions. Our guide suggested that we sit by the lake to capture reflections at sunset. All prepared but the clouds rolled in and the sun was hidden. Nary a sunset photo, just had to rely on the flash.

Firstly, take a 'tuktuk' local nearby your place to the Sunset Angkor. You should be proposal for this ones pick you up at the end place before tried to cross the Angkor historical relic. The good time to watch it is about 3:30 P.M or at least 4 o'clock P.M local timeline, bring the necessary equipment include water bottles, hats, sunglasses and sit holding target. Finally, you might be waiting for the sun to come, just patience and hold on your camera while the clouds is cutting the sun, it'll create many mirror pictures and rainbows miracle in the moment. Look straight ahead at skyline (proof another temple), you'll realize around so beautiful, attractively. By away, up to 1 or 2 hours stand or sit a point. You need to more water for the final journey ! Have you enjoy !

I wanted a sunset with reflections and without a crowd. So my guide and I decided to skip the usual places with the required climbing and the big crowds. Instead he took us to the south gate of Angkor Thom. There is a river there which provides excellent reflections of the sunset. The lighting on the south gate and wall is beautiful just before the sun goes down.

The day we were there, there were some dragon boats a ways down the river, which made the setting more picturesque. We were almost alone on the riverbank watching the sunset, which was also nice. No people to get in the way of the beautiful view. :-)

The time to be at Angkor Wat is at sunrise and sunset. If you can't do both at least do one. Both give breathtaking views. Coordinate with your tour guide as to the best place to see the sunset. You need to get there early as there are 100's of people trying to do the same thing.

For sunrises and sunsets the most obvious temples are listed in the guidebooks. Sunrise: Angkor Wat; Preah Koh; Srah Srang as few other temples are open to alllow viewing. For sunset: Angkor Wat; Phnom Bakheng (get there by 3-3:30pm). The reservoir by Srah Srang is currently (April 2016) nearly dry so the sunrise is not so great. Angkor Wat at sunrise is a silhouette but the Apsaras on the back of the first building after the moat look wonderful at this time in the early sunlight. At Angkor Wat they close at 17:30 and this is when the sunset starts to colour up so you miss the real colour which is between 17:30-18:00. Banteay Srei at 06:30 really glows with the morning sun and is one of the best temple experiences with sunrise and you are on your own as the tour groups don't get there before 08:00. As most of the temples face the sun its a choice of temples in the sunlight or just taking pictures of the sun in the sky like at Preah Koh. Many of the smaller temples you can wander around in the evening light and get very atmospheric photos without the crowds who flock to the main sunrise/sunset points
