Probably the most impressive temple within Angkor Thom complex, Baphuon Temple allows access to the top up a long steep staircase; and it's worth the climb. Top 5 from my visit, certainly worth making the time to explore

Bring your comfortable shoes & a guide. Lots of steps so quite tiring. Good views.Look for the reclining Buddha. Take a guide to get the most out of your visit & who will explain the history.

Baphuon: Huge temple-mountain in the heart of Angkor Thom. Largely collapsed and in ruined condition, the main temple area is undergoing extensive restoration. Most of the construction area is not open to the public but over the last several months, certain areas have begun to...More

This is a small temple but quite beautiful. There was a pretty big stair climb to the top but the views were fantastic. Watch out for the sleeping Buddha in the brickwork as you come back down.

It is a truly astonishing spectacle with more than ten chambers at its base. It is a three-tiered temple mountain built as the state temple dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva. Large portions had already collapsed by the time Buddha was added.

Definitely include this temple on your to do list. Magnificent views await at the top level. Be ready for lots of steep ladders. The reclining buddhas as you leave is a great surprise

Steep climb up, not for the faint of heart if you dislike heights, but very nice when you're up there to look down and around the complex. Recommended for sure.

Some of the trees that intertwined with the ruins, strangling the gates are ancient figs. I'm not suggesting that these are the trees you observed but it might not be a bad place to start.
