Well stocked market. Fun to shop for scarf, souvenirs, Clothes and scarfs. Don't forget to bargain.Statr from half the price quoted and then go up. When the shop keeper allows you to go without making a sale it means that the price he has quoted is the best. So go for it. If you move on you will never be able to find the same shop again. There are too many lanes!! I visited this market 3 times in 2 days!

I have visited over 50 markets throughout Asia and this is my top favorite.. The entire market is covered. The outer stalls are all souvenirs, clothes, and collectables: from tacky trinkets to replica Khmer sculpture, it's all here. Haggle, haggle, haggle, state final price then walk away. You might get a fair price with this technique. If you are looking for items of some cost, surf the market, the same items are usually available in several shops or more. Beware, that some sellers will start at ridiculous prices. I was quoted 250 for a piece I'd pay $50 for. When its this insulting I just move on. A true example: two nice ladies have a sculpture shop. The item was actually marked (a good sign) at $78. After lots of back and forth I got it for $ 50. I am a sculpture collector so that seemed reasonable. Move further inside and you are in genuine local market, with everything from housewares to fresh food, and food stalls too. This is a photographers dream. The market open early in the morning and the souvenir areas look to be open up till 7 or 8. There is also a nice souvenir night market just across the bridge at the SW corner and walk south a bit. It opens 4-9.

Visited the market and saw multiple vendors selling the same cheap goods - real fakes. Was disappointed in the quality of the goods and the price, quoted all in US - The current currency. My wife purchased some scarves and 3D cads.

Numerous stalls selling clothing, shoes, scarves, jewelry, Buddhas and other local souvenirs. We were able to locate a nice quality carved cane for my husband in one of the back stalls, and a fabric lizard stuffed with sand for our grandson at another stall. We bargained and received a fair deal on our purchases. It was difficult to locate many quality or unique items, but it was fun to search. Produce and food items are also available, but the smells in the fish market area were quite overwhelming.

A tourist spot to say the least. Just below Pub Street, heading to the river is Old Market. Here there is something for everyone, as expected, souvenirs, something you do not need and something your friends don't want. However, if your are careful, there are some good locally made items that are well worth the price. Look the items over, and you will be able to see the junk from the quality items. Prices, well negotiate is the answer.

A typical Asian market. I usually stop here to buy produce, although they have plenty of seafood, meat, and fresh eggs too. Non-food items include clothing, footwear, souvenirs, soaps, etc. The food part of the market is dirty, smelly, noisy, and has a typical selection of aforementioned food items. Again, typical southeast Asian market. It's more popular with foreigners than another similar and bigger market about two kilometers away. Because of that, sometimes items here are a bit more expensive because vendors are used to charging foreigners extra. But it does the job I suppose. Each vendor is a little different. Some will overcharge you. Some are reasonable. After living here a while, I just know what a good price is and what isn't. If unsure, I ask three or four vendors what the price is per kilo of a particular item. I refuse to ever pay the same price as the grocery store for something. Overall, in terms of produce, the market has a good selection and is conveniently located right next to pub street.

The Old Market is fine for buying the usual tourist arts and crafts. But, if are looking for jewellery or gold, I would avoid it. We bought supposedly a 18K gold bracelet. When we got back to Bangkok to get it verified, the gold bracelet was only 4% gold. Paid 6000 baht and it was worth 60 baht.
If you wish to buy gems or gold, go to a gold shop outside the market. Oh well, live and learn.

We loved the atmosphere in this bustling market (much better than the Night Market we felt). Yes there’s lots of touristy stuff and lots of sellers trying to get you to buy but it’s all done in a friendly way. Further in is the food market which is fascinating although expect some strong smells!

Psar Chaa (Old Market) is an all day market located between the famous Pub Street and the Siem Reap River. This is a place for both locals and tourists alike depending on what you are looking for.
You will find a high number of stalls selling food stock, vegetables, fruits, meats, fish pastes, rice, spices, candies and other sundries. You will also find shops selling souvenirs, T-shirts, silks, artworks and other typical items for tourists. Some of the Old Market exterior is of French colonial architecture. Otherwise, I'm not certain how far back the market history dates back.
In the area of the Old Market, visitors will also find many bars, cheap eat restaurants, fruit shake stands. Many more are found a short walk north to Pub Street. For more souvenir and related shopping, you can cross the Siem Reap River and spend more time at the Art Centre Night Market which kicks off around 4pm every afternoon.

Hi Hatiby,
I don't speak Japanese so I'm hoping the Google translator has correctly translated your question.
You seem to be asking about wooden puppets in the Old Market at Siem Reap.
I saw quite a few wooden puppets when I was there as well as a lot of wooden figures.
There are actually four large markets in Siem Reap and I would advise you that the best one for wooden puppets and other artwork is the Art Market.
You get there across wooden bridges from the centre of Siem Reap and at night you can easily spot the Art Market because there is a big neon sign outside which lights up the whole area and which is easily visible from the far side of the bridge.
Hope all this helps. Don't hesitate to contact me again if the translation hasn't quite given you the information you were hoping for. Good luck.

Hi, hoping someone can assist me with the 2 questions below:
Im interested in getting genuine silks in Siem Reap, be it scarfs, handbag or anything made of genuine silks or even raw silks. I have read from a post somewhere, though that was few years back that Mrs Pisey was operating a silk stall at the Psar Chaa. Is she still operating there? Any other places that you can recommend me? at reasonable price. Artisans Angkor silk farm is rather expensive from what i read.
What about genuine gem stones like sapphire, emerald in Siem Reap?
Thanks so much for the help. Regards: Desmond

I once bought some silk cushion covers from Psar Chaa, and they did not last very long. Later I bought some new ones from the Artisans Angkor and I still have them. So it is the old story. You get what you pay for. Yes, the silk from Artisans Angkor is more expensive, but it is good quality.
Unless you know a lot about gem stones and can tell the difference between a real stone and glass, I would not buy any gem stones in Siem Reap. The sellers have lots of tricks to convince you that what they are selling are real, like scratching glass with the gem stone and putting a blowtorch to them to demonstrate that they will not crack under heat. But they are good at sleight of hand and I would not trust them. I once bought a gold chain in Ps
ar Chaa and the moment I got outside I realized it was not gold. The shop owner had put yellow bulbs in all the lights at her stall so that it intensified the gold colour. I went back and kicked up such a stink in front of other customers that she quickly gave me my money back to shut me up.

Pshar Chaa is OK, but the best is Pshar Leu. The cambodians themselves buy their goods from Pshar Leu. And the prices are not multiplied as in the city center. Of course it might be difficult to find a Angkor Wat t-shirt or Tomb Raider mug there, but souvenirs, yes.
Tell the tuk -tuk driver " psaa löö" and he will take you there. Be prepared to spend 4-5 hrs there, since the market-building and the surrounding outdoor market is huge! Also an excellent place to eat!

I do not remember the time I got there but they open around 9 as most shops in town. And I am not sure but I think they stay open until 10 pm because they are very close to the pub street and the night market, so they know there are lota of tourist at night too. Do not miss it!! They have great shops there and in the aera around it. Have a great time in Cambodia!!
