This home was the only house owned by George Hormel, the founded of Hormel foods, in Austin, MN. The home is beautiful but not extravagant for such a prominent member of the community - in fact, really the prominent member. It is typical of solid midwestern values that are not showy. The foundation that runs it has done a wonderful... More

Was just there for a wedding ceremony and reception, and the outside ceremony was absolutely gorgeous. Enough space to move, plenty of places to hide the bride until it's time, and the inside for the reception had plenty of space to eat and dance. All in all a good day!

Everything about this home is enchanting, the grounds outside to every detail that has been meticulously maintained inside. My best friend will be having her wedding here, and I am beyond excited for the event! The charm of the home is going to make decorating a simple joy. I genuinely recommend anyone visiting or living in Austin stop by for... More

Beautiful historic home that belonged to the founder of the Hormal Company. Furniture is original as the family went to California for retirement and left the house and it's furnishings to a group that kept it in tact, very nice addition to the SPAM museum

Austin is all about Hormel, so I thought I'd go and see the Historic home. The house is a mansion right in the middle of town, yet it doesn't look out of place. The landscaping was beyond fantastic, with all the blooming flowers and mature trees, and the swine statue! They don't make houses like this any more, well worth... More

Run by a private preservation group. Upon entry, They ask for $3 donation for the maintenance of the historic house.

We visited the Historic Home as a part of our visit to Austin and the Spam museum. The house is very well preserved and contains some interesting facts about the Hormel family. The self-guided tour is easy with well signed exhibits. We were met by a nice person that got us started on the tour and then she checked in... More

This mansion was very nice and a completely different floor plan, but not over done as some the mansions we have been in tend to be. The history has a couple of surprises in it. Worth the visit as admissions fee was only $3 per.

After an major disappointing visit at another historic home we almost skipped the Hormel Historic Home. We are very glad we didn't. No herding tour groups that are too large to hear the guide and see the area the guide is describing as this tour is totally self guided. There is a minimum $3.00 fee per person. Once the fee... People like me who enjoy seeing how people lived, history and architecture/home interiors would enjoy this tour. The original wood work is still displayed and the bedding was hand sewn by local societies.
