I thoroughly enjoyed my bike tour. We saw temples and locations I hadn’t seen even after living in Mandalay for 5 months! Our guide was knowledgeable and cognizant of out physical abilities. After our tour I frequented several of the tour stops the following 5 months in Mandalay.

On a boat in Myamar , this was one of the highlights of the trip. Arrived early as it gets very busy with tourists .

This was a good way to get out of Mandalay and see some of the life outside the city and some nice historic sites as well. Bike ride easy going - as advertised - so no worries if you are not a hardcore cyclist. The guide, a young man named Linn, did a very nice job - he was enthusiastic, flexible, knowledgeable, and spoke very good English, which he was eager to take to the next level. This was my second tour with Grasshopper (previously did one in Bagan) and they are well organized and easy to work with.

I took the tour today and it is absolutely worth the money! The bikes are in very good shape, the group was veeery small (aka only me and Sam, the guide), the food is good and plenty and we spent more than nine hours on and around the lake. We went through villages, different landscapes, where invited for tea and escaped the loud motor boats on the lake for a bit. Sam knows people everywhere, he explains a lot and I think he can really adapt the tour to the biking skills of his guests. Still, I think it helps if you're a secure rider, feeling confident crossing some smaller bridges etc - but absolutely not necessary to have any specific mountainbiking skills. To me, this was a perfect day around the lake, a lot more impressive and memorable than the "classic" Inle motorboat tour (that I did the day before).

We had a fantastic afternoon doing the U Bein Bridge Sunset Cycling Day Tour from Mandalay. We saw so many different things and the trip was exactly how it was described ending the day on the river with the sunset at the bridge. I have to mention our guide who was superb Wai Linn Aung a young lad who was so enthusiatic about what he did, the places he took us and his knowledge was great too.
My wife hadn't been on a bike for over 20 years and she managed and loved it too.
Thanks again Grasshopper and we will use your services again the next time we are in one of your locations!!

If you like a bit of adventure and most of all getting away from other tourists then take this tour!
My guide Sam was great, answering all of my questions, showing me the best photo spots, introducing me to locals and translating.
The bike trip is really fun, but you should be comfortable riding a mountain bike and have same basic skills - trails and bridges are narrow, that’s what makes it even more fun!
Food was great, the Kajak tour a chilled ending to the tour.
Sam even arranged for the boat to have me dropped off at my hotel.
Highly recommended!

We did both the morning and sunset tours in Mandalay. In the morning, Than Htike Aung took us out to the market where we snacked on some delicious local food before heading out to the coutryside. It was quite a hot ride with little shade. The countryside was still mostly on the main bitumen roads so it wasn't so much the scenery that captivated us, as much as the workshops and seeing the traditional ways people continue to process goods. Than was a great, friendly and cheerful guide. He always checked up on us and gave information as we were cycling.
In the afternoon tour, the van dropped us off out of town before we started cycling. We were very lucky to see one of the novice processions with children on horses, cows, and even an elephant! Wai Linn Aung was our guide for this segment as we cycled through the ancient city of Inwa. We stopped at some traditional family homes and he would explain how the families conduct their trade. It was an interesting, relaxing and shady ride while we visited the less touristy sites of Inwa and wound our way to Ubein bridge for a sunset boat ride.
For both Mandalay tours the paths were easy to cycle and all relatively flat. However, the afternoon ride was a bit more pleasant as there was more shade and scenice views throughout. Surprisingly, there was no overlap between the morning and afternoon tours so they were equally interesting and definitely not touristy (besides the sunset boat ride at Ubein bridge). Would highly recommend a cycle with Grasshoppers. Two tours in a day was quite tiring though. If I were to choose only one, the afternoon was more enjoyable.

I deliberated before booking this as it seemed a little pricey compared to other experiences I've done in Asia. However, we booked it based on the glowing reviews on here and I'm so glad we did. Our guide Wai Linn Aung was a total pro. Giving us info on the local villages, and accommodating our request to stop for some food. He led us through beautiful countryside and villages which really felt off the beaten track. People greeted us warmly and talked us through their local trades. The tour ended with beers on a boat watching sunset over U Bein bridge. Great bikes too!

Dear dee_lw_36,
Thanks for the review and we can’t be more happier to know that we could deliver the great experience to you accompanied by our guide “Wai Linn Aung” and make you feel the value of money with us.
This sunset tour is all about local experiences, by telling you the stories of local people and their small business, daily life styles and lovely tradition of them while your feet are on the pedals and passing by the beautiful countryside of Ava and its temples.
Also, we are very glad that you enjoyed the great sunset time at U Bein Bridge with your relaxing drinks.
Happy Biking and hope to see you again.
Best regards,
Win.

A great way to get out of the city and see the lovely countryside surrounding Mandalay. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, and we really enjoyed our time chatting with him. The visits to local farms and tea houses were the highlights.

A fantastic experience. We have cycled most Countries in Asia and this was by far one of the best. Beautiful and interesting. Our guide YeYe was fantastic. He was fun, full of knowledge and extremely attentive. The ride from Mandalay, stopping at Mt Popa and ending with a full afternoon cycle around Bagan was awesome. I would suggest everyone ride a bicycle around Bagan. It is the right tempo to really absorb the magic of the place. The ride to Salay was wonderful too. Learned so much about Village industry and life. I would highly recommend both Trips. In fact I would highly recommend seeking out Ye Ye as your guide when in Bagan.

Dear RTetley,
What a great review we got from you and thanks so much for taking your time to share this with us.
“Ye Ye '' is the one who is really passionate about being a cycling guide and we surely will reach out to him to share your words.
This bike ride from the fantastic city of Mandalay to the cultural heart of the country, Bagan is the great opportunity to explore a lot of things about Myanmar, such as culture and tradition, foods and farms, beauties of local people and several villages, etc.
And yes, Salay is also a great place to explore and a visit to small local industries on the way can also be so interesting and inspiring.
Apart from these, we are so happy to have your recommendation and we can’t be more proud of it. I do really hope to see you again and cannot wait to offer you more of our exciting adventures.
Thank You and Best Regards,
Win.

How was your transport from Mandalay Intl Airport. What nearby hotels did you all stay?

We used the shared taxi system from the airport, it only saved us about £3 from memory this October versus having a taxi just for us ( as a couple), the taxi was full of mosquitos, dirty, hot and the air conditioning didn't really work. Unless you are alone I recommend getting your own taxi and check it first as the difference isn't huge, and the other couple with us ( we didn't really have a choice we just turned up at the desk at te airport at the same time) were staying by the river across town which was a long detour in traffic. We said the stay particularly close but still near the fort rather than the river, and when we confirmed our tour they told us how much a taxi or motorbike taxi should be which was helpful.
