We had an opportunity to go inside but it does not compare to the beauty of the walls. Take a walk around as there are tiny alleys and parks to rest your feet and enjoy the architecture.

The Djumaya Mosque sits right in the center of Plovdiv, near the main tourist information office, amphitheater, main pedestrian shopping street, entrance to old town, etc., so it is easy to visit. It is a peaceful spot in an otherwise rather bustling area, fronted by...More

Bulgaria was prominently a Christian country. Under the Ottoman rule, the most prominent church in the city couldn't be a Christian church so it was converted from a Christian cathedral into a mosque. It's a beautiful building inside and out.

With global politics being what they are, it is increasingly important (unfortunately) for mosques to be open and welcoming to all, and this place was perfect for that. The building is old, and of an architectural style before that of the Ottomans with their central...More

We love Turkey and it was interesting to visit Bulgaria which has had a fraught history under the Ottomans. Came across the mosque when we got into Plovdiv but there was a prayer session on, so we were not able to enter. The muezzin call...More
