Overview
More
For many years, there was no law against keeping brown bears in Kosovo. All privately kept brown bears lived in small cages at restaurants and were used to attract visitors. In November 2010, when it became illegal to keep bears privately, FOUR PAWS reacted immediately, offering the government support in finding a species-appropriate home for these “restaurant bears”. Currently at BEAR SANCTUARY Prishtina live 19 bears all rescued from captivity. Here they have plenty of space, ponds and proper meals, and most of all, they are living in harmony with each other. May 2018 was another important month for the sanctuary, as we celebrated the grand opening of the Environmental Education Centre “Thesaret e Natyrës”. This new centre offers various educational exhibitions/ games, souvenir shop, seminar rooms and a nice bistro to freshen up with drinks or enjoy a nice vegetarian or vegan meal.

Steep paths and not suitable for people with disabilities. Some of the bears didnt look to be in very good condition and appeared bored, pacing round and round in circles wearing tracks in the grass. Wouldnt go again.

We found earlier directions from other reviews very helpful – thanks! Just to add the petrol station where you get off is at the very far end of the lake so if you are on the bus it is easy to know when to get...More

So first, the journey. I combined the trip to the Sanctuary with a visit to Gracinica Monastery, as they are both on the same bus route. From Prishtina you get a bus headed for Gjilan. Once finished at the monastery I got back on another...More

Not sure about a taxi. We went by bus which was easy (short walk from bus stop to sanctuary) and cheap
