Molas
Aug 2019 • Couples
I was wondering to buy “molas” embroiders make by the Indians Guna. Don’t by in the first, you should walk around to ask how much each mola is in different stores at the market! The prices are different and you can bargain!!!!

Good variety and friendly merchants
Feb 2019
After a visit to Panama Viejo I walked through this well kept building with a number of artisan outlets. While some outlets weren't open - it was noon on a weekday, enough artisans were available to make it entirely worthwhile and so enjoyable to view the various wares. I especially appreciated the variety of molas and found 2 - one already attached to a great carry bag. I made multiple other purchases, and did not dicker over price as I feel the asking prices were reasonable to begin with. I especially loved purchasing a hand carved miniature leopard - it is exquisite and the artisan was obviously pleased that I could tell how skilled he was.

Seemed promising, but hardly any of the stalls were open.
Dec 2018 • Couples
Perhaps the stalls were closed because it was close to Christmas (Dec 27), but there was not much to look at or do. It was a little hectic to get there as well, in a part of town that doesn't have much to explore.

Much cheaper than the Old Town

Go to 5 May metro station, and head back underneath the elevated road until you come to some pink plastic structures that look like huge rubbish bins. These are the stalls. Good selection of the usual stuff. Much cheaper here than in the main tourist areas.

Local Crafts
Sep 2018 • Couples
Great place to pick up local crafts for souvenirs. You can watch some of the artisans making their items to sell. If you want a deal you have to work them down or just walk away. Lots of cometition in the area.

Nothing inspiring here
Apr 2017 • Couples
Only a few stall-holders were open and the place lacked any atmosphere or customers. There is nothing here that isn't available at any other souvenir vendor around Panama and you would likely find it cheaper.

worthy

I’m from Panama but I live here in the USA, the Panama Viejo Artisanal Market , have very good and decent prices, plus the articles that are sold there are hand maid by Panamamenias , not made in China, so for dose people that say that you can find the same type of souvenirs in any retail store , it is not true. Next time you visit Panama please stop there you will not be disappointed.

Waste of time

We visited here while touring Panama Viejo. Not worth your time. It's over priced and doesn't have anything you can't find anywhere else.

Over-priced and under-done
Feb 2016 • Couples
This so-called artisan market is situated right next to the visitor centre for Panama la Vieja (the old original Panama City site, prior to its sacking by Welshman, Henry Morgan, a notorious pirate in 1671). To be honest, Morgan would have found little of interest to sack in this market today. The market is in a dedicated building provided by the Ministry of Commerce. The artisans hire small booths on two floors and some were active in making artisan items as we visited. The prices, however, are extortionate and probably reflect the steep rents that have to be paid. A small woven bowl had an asking rice of US$80. A small stone red-eyed frog was marked at $45. We tried haggling closer to the true value but the trader would not go below $38. It is a sad place, lacks the atmosphere of a true market and is not worth visiting, unless you are desperate for pricey Panamanian trinkets and souveneirs.. You would do a lot better going to Casco Viejo (the next site for Panama City), way to the west and looking in on the many souvenir places there.

Not worth it
Mar 2015 • Solo
I only stopped in because it is adjacent to Panama Viejo, ruins from the original Spanish settlement. The Mercado has nothing that you won't find in any number of souvenir shops around the city. Don't make a special trip or you will be disappointed.
