This cathedral is absolutely stunning on both the inside and outside. The interior had beautiful stained glade windows and a lovely interior with paintings, chandeliers, and holy figures. My family and I also were fortunate enough to have them open up Monseñor Romero's Crypt for...More

Stunning interior, like a Rome from Rome. Down stairs you can visit the crypt of Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez, soon to be saint. The ceramic decoration on the outside is not there but this doesn’t matter. A brand new square has been built right...More

Just a church - nothing special ! From an architectural point of view : probably a failure ! So don't waste too much time with this church , but stroll around the area instead ,the historic center of San Salvador - much more rewarding !!!

Visited the cathedral and the crypt with the ECTours Free Walking Tour group. The history of the cathedral is very interesting, including the story of martyred Archbishop Oscar Romero. We visited the crypt and paid our respects. Very peaceful inside. Big landmark on Plaza Barrios...More

This lovely cathedral was so worth a visit. It has been sensitively rebuilt after the fire which razed it to the ground. Don’t miss the mausoleum of Archbishop Romero!

I went in December 2015. This cathedral was very big and spacious inside. It is not made of glass panes but is more simple in decoration. You can google for the photos. I really enjoyed it because inside the atmosphere was very relaxed ( anyone...More

A functioning Cathedral, the architecture and decor are very similar to other latino churches in Latin America so nothing explicitly unique there. The history of the facility, especially related to the recent period of conflict is compelling and adds unique historical context. If those walls...More

If you are traveling to El Salvador, this is a must in your trip agenda... it has a lot of history inside and also has the rests of a famous latin America priest. The cathedral is located at the center of the city and it...More

Final resting place of Archbishop Romero, an important figure in El Salvador's history and not-so-distant civil war. Currently the entire plaza is under repairs so main entrance is blocked off. Humble but affecting interior.
