This monument is in tribute to Petar II Petrović-Njegoš, the Prince-Bishop of Montenegro. He is best known as a poet and philosopher whose works are widely considered amongst the most important in Serbian literature. The monument is a bronze of a seated Petrović-Njegoš and appears to be sitting on a boulder. He is dressed in a military uniform, a book held in his left arm and resting on his left thigh. He is depicted in his middle years, with a fiery, but proud look on his face.

This is a pretty ordinary statue of a famous man from Montenegro. The design is neat, as he is posed sitting on is legs. Nice statue, but nothing amazing.

I had never heard of Petar II Petrovic Njegos prior to coming across his monument, but apparently he is considered to be one of the most important figures in Serbian and Montenegrin literature. He also ruled Montenegro and laid the foundation of its modernisation.

Having recently visited Montenegro, I understand the contributions of this great man to Montenegro and Serbia.

It is appropriate that his monument exist, to remind future generations of his contributions.

We have found during our travels you can learn a-lot about a city through its, monuments/statues/memorials. This one is dedicated to bishop and ruler of Montenegro, he was a well respected, poet. Regarding his literature prowess Njegos is to Serbia, what Shakespeare is to England
