From the outside, this neoclassical building (former secondary school) looks impressive. The staff manning the ticket counter was friendly and enthusiastic in telling me about the special exhibition at the basement. The collection is rather eclectic, but not very impressive to me. The small special...More

The Mimara Museum is located near the city centre and it is a beautiful building. It is a private collection with some great art works but majority of the collection are just average.

A collection of art, presented in a nice way. It comes best with the app for your mobile where you can discover a few more details about the exhibits. Just follow the room numbers and you will find what you are looking for. Nice add:...More

I've read some controversies about this museum and Mimara himself, but I decided to visit the museum anyway. It contains a lot of artefacts - paintings, sculptures, and ceramics. I'm not an expert to justify whether all those artefacts are genuine or not, but from...More

This gallery has some truly wonderful pieces. This is free with the Zagreb card and is a good attraction to spend an hour or two. Not top of the must-do list however.

This museum houses the private collection of its namesake with a dazzling array of different art forms. Located on a quiet street in the lower town, we had this museum almost to ourselves. The artwork spans centuries and every genre imaginable. It is a an...More

I have never seen a more overrated museum in my life. It is just a small private collection that simply cannot fill the spacious halls of a former secondary school. And some of the descriptions are erroneous, to say the least: e. g. some of...More

Quite honestly, hubs and I ducked in to escape the heat of day, but ended up enjoying the art displayed in the Mimara Museum. We aren't huge art fans, but can appreciate good works and have had the opportunity to see art from all over...More

The museum has great works of art in many forms, including paintings, sculpture and other artifacts. They are arranged in order that makes sense floor by floor and room by room. My main interest is the Dutch Masters, and the Mimara did not disappoint. It...More

Fake. Fake. Fake. Mimara was thief, cheater, falsificator.Art historians and experts, from the beginning ignored this collection, allegedly made up of artworks of Michelangelo, Boticelli, Velasquez, treating it as a fake and essentially second-class.
