Again a pleasant park in name dedicated to youth (rinia means youth), after a period of neglect during the early capitalist period in the 1990s and 2000s. As in many other former communist countries vast public parks were created in the center of cities. They were envisaged as green zones where ordinary people could spend their free time in an enjoyable way. The new casino on the westside definitely does not fit this purpose. Anyway overall renovation was successful and brought an end to crime and waste. I especially liked the fountains.

The refurbishment has been finished and a new playground has been installed, so much missing from Tirana.

Wander south of Skanderbeg Square and you will find this large green space, covering almost three hectares. The central public park of the city is anchored in its southwest corner by the rather gaudy [space ship looking or spider-like?] Regency Casino. Most of the rest is pleasant areas to stroll or take the small children re the play area. Maybe the heat of the day was keeping people away the two times I walked past/through it.

What used to be a beautiful central park in the center of Tirana, has been recently turned into an ugly, unhospitable, and impractical muddle of grassy knolls, grass dunes, rain pools, playground installations, absurd useless nets, wrong kind of trees, in short: a pile of totally wrong and unecessary transformations. A clear example that not all change is progress. They shouldn't have wasted all that money and time, and just left it like it was. It was way better.

Just your average park. A few walking trails with benches and there is children's playground. Cafes on the other side of the park. The highlight of the park is the Independence monument.

Really nice little park in the city center. Plenty of space for the local children to run around, as well as some swings and a jungle gym. There's also a big fountain with some cool art work all around.

Rinia park is a centrally located park spread between the main Skenderbeg Sq and the trendy Blloku district to the south.
It's a small, yet nice oasis of greenery that the Albanian capital mostly lacks of. There's a Taiwan pavilion in the middle with some restaurants and bars, and in front of it is a pond with many fountains and water jets. While they look nice during the day, at nighttime they seem kitsch being illuminated.
The Independence monument is also in the park.

It looks like this was under renovation for a while. It is a lovely space with places to relax and loads to do. Nice green open space in Tirana.

This means the Independence Monument and much-photographed I Love Tirana sign are unreachable (indeed, the latter has been removed altogether) and that the park is one big churned-up pile of dirt at the moment. I'm sure it will be pretty whenever they get around to finishing out.
