Set on a hill overlooking the Old Town, this picturesque street is lined with white colonial houses with wooden balconies, small art galleries, craft shops and cafes. It is the ideal place to buy art objects, handmade jewelry and other typical Peruvian products. The neighborhood has a unique atmosphere, with narrow cobbled streets and a mix of Inca and colonial influences.Visited November 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten November 11, 2024
- Eric LJura, France789 contributionsPicturesque, pretty and photogenic area worth a visitIn this area located on the heights of Cusco you will have the impression that time has stopped. There's a sense of quiet. Its small cobblestone streets, the small square with its church, its small shops etc... everything gives the feeling of being out of time. It’s relaxing! In my opinion it is unthinkable to come to Cusco without passing through these places. If you are lucky enough to stay long enough in Cusco, come to this neighborhood once at the beginning of the day, and again at night. You will then see 2 different complementary atmospheres. In addition, it is a very photogenic area!Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 14, 2025
- giovannaBorneoLugano, Switzerland1,003 contributionsLively neighborhood above the Plaza de Armas, nice atmosphere both day and nightIt is one of the most famous neighborhoods of Cusco, with many shops, art galleries, restaurants, original coffee shops and local artisans but also with many stalls with the usual souvenirs. The narrow and steep streets between beautiful colonial houses lead to the small Plaza de San Blas, where you can visit the beautiful little church built on an Inca temple dedicated to the god of lightning and several galleries of artisan artists such as that of Hilario Mendivil's family, famous for ceramics with elongated necks inspired by llamas and alpacas. Continuing the climb you can stop at a coffee shops overlooking the rooftops of the city such as L'atelier Cafe Concept or Kaldi Coffee to rest and catch your breath. This neighborhood is beautiful both during the day and in the evening with the view of the city illuminated.Visited November 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 24, 2025

San Blas is a neighborhood with a bohemian feel. The place has that nice vibe for strolling at night: there are many restaurants and bistros with an intimate feel, good for tasting wine and having a coffee. Or take a leisurely walk and enter the countless craft shops and art galleries that stay open until the early hours of the morning. For those looking to stay away from the hustle and bustle of Plaza de Armas, the neighborhood is a great option. However, San Blas is in the upper part of Cusco, so I don't recommend it for anyone who has difficulty with hills -- remember the altitude and its consequences.

Be of the best places in Cusco. The artistic view of the city. Lots of artists sharing their work and narrow roads full of cozy places to eat, have coffee, or drink. You can feel the difference of that area, it's not that touristic as the rest of Cusco and the view is amazing - mostly at the night. You should visit, spend some time there and enjoy the vibes of the area. Totally recommended for everyone and definitely you may come back again and again.

There are is wonderful to experience. So much to see, taste, and try. Close to the residential areas, San Blas quickly became our favorite area with more tranquility than the main square, countless vegan options, and incredibly fascinating indigenous art.

Another beautiful place that you need to visit, in the city of Cusco. Close to the main square, when you go up the San Blas slope, you reach this neighborhood, also known as the artisan neighborhood. The view is quite beautiful.
The only negative is that there are some street vendors on its streets.

Another beautiful tourist point in the city of Cusco, very close to the main square, when climbing the San Blas slope, you reach this beautiful neighborhood of artisans.
Many of the houses are ancient with colonial details.
The view from here is beautiful.

We found a few real artists selling unique items, and bought two paintings from his shop. This is a short, but steep walk from the main square. Lots of restaurants and cafes along the way, plus a view of the whole city.

A few store a few restaurant and a good place to meet your tour guide. Craft stalls and natives in costumes with their Lamas. Of course if you want a picture you have to pay. The store people and vendors are very forward about aking you to go into their store or buying their wares.

I stayed a few nights in San Blas and found it to be an enjoyable place. Many backpackers and artists with lots of small shops and restaurants. A little dirty in places, the small paths and roads have an almost Venice like feel. Brave the hills and make sure your see this place!

More shops, restaurants and Inca foundations. Restaurants are less expensive than those on the main square. The fascinating market place with food stalls, fruit, meat, cheeses and inexpensive tourist items is nearby. Continue to search for Inca foundations.

San Blas is a very quiet area of Cusco and for that reason is a great place to visit! Its narrow streets and artisan vibe are attractive to those who like to wonder off the tourist trail. There are plenty of small cafes, restaurants and shops to visit whilst enjoying the cool architecture of its narrow alleyways.

cuantos días necesito esta en cuzco??
Written July 25, 2016
Suerte!

Do the shops in San Blas, or Cusco in general, close early or are they open into the evening?
Written March 23, 2015
Most of the small shops are open until 9pm, especially the ones in the center, near Plaza de Armas. The markets, though, close at 5pm.
