We enjoyed the visit to La Sebastiana on our recent trip to Chile. The layout of the home was unique and the views from the upper floors was wonderful. Enjoyed the windy and quite steep walk from Cerro Alegre to La Sebastiana. Be aware that...More

I guess you must appreciate the poet or be interested in the person to come here but it was included as part of a tour of Valparaiso. I don't criticise choosing to come here as Neruda is an integral part of Chile's and Valparaiso's culture...More

The museum was a small interesting place, but the man himself fails on our current standard of personal character. He was a womanizer and self-cenetered.

My personal favorite of Valpo's sights. The house might not seem as exciting from the outside, but just wait to be inside. It's absolutely marvelous to walk through its tiny corridors and beautifully decorated interiors. And it offers the best view of the town. Anyone...More

Mi relato en ingles: Unfortunally, my experience in Valparaiso was very bad. My brother is living in Santiago de Chile and we decided to go to Valparaiso by ourselves. We took the Ascensor Artillería at 10:30 a.m. From there we went to the Naval and maritime museum. Our mistake was decided to go by walk to the others turistic places. so we started to walk and then after 15-20 minutes we were robbed violently. 2 men started to run in our direction, the biggest who was also the leader tried to take my bag and snatch my bag. I was stronger than him. So He threw me on the floor, I was immobilized with a foot and he pulled out a switchblade knife. I saw the knife close to my belly and I was ready to receive the knife. I closed my eyes and I got peed on. My brother was with the other guy who was short and thin and asked for the money/la Plata to a meter away. My brother gave the wallet with 200.000 chilean pesos and all documents and credit card. He was able to hide the I-phone 6 (the price is around 800 Eur). he didn´t tried to help me. My brother told me to stop to tighten the purse/the bag. I did it and the man took my bag which contain the samsung S3, sony zt3 waterproof, a small canon camera (value around 60 Eur) and 110.000 chilean pesos. We were on a Cerro/Hill very close to a square with a checkpoint police (carabinieros). we made the complaint of theft which took a lot of time. The police was very very lazy. Then we went to the police office by car to finish to declair. We lost all the money and we asked to the police some money to return to santiago. They gave the money and we made the transfer the following day. The police told us that Valpairaiso is getting the most dangerous city of Chile. The tourists has to go there with a Tour or if they walk alone, the have to go only in the most touristic places. Sometimes the Lanzas/thieves start to follow the tourist and await the opportunity to rob. It a pity that this beautiful city is so unsafe. The police told us that some people who comes to Valparaiso to give the recognition as a UNESCO heritage of humanity were also robbed. Be careful.
