Neighborhood: Marina Bay
More of a mini city than a neighbourhood in the traditional sense, the iconic Marina Bay aims to dazzle and entertain visitors of all kinds. This is the Singapore found in glossy brochures, featuring a world-class hotel, casino, shops, restaurants, bars, and other attractions all geared towards pure entertainment. The SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands provides a stunning view of the city, a must-see photo opportunity for visitors and locals alike. The ArtScience Museum always has a top-quality exhibition, and Gardens by the Bay is a fascinating manifestation of the government’s vision of Singapore as a “city in a garden”. Enticing Marina Bay is well worth a visit.

This place has now become a ‘digital light canvas’, which is like running on a giant smartphone and seeing lights change under your feet. Enjoyable for young kids; those under 7 need to be accompanied by an adult, so that’s $10.

This place no longer exists. The office where you buy tickets is empty and the rink it boarded up. Signs saying that they will be building something else in the coming months.

We have to thank the attendant who warned us that this activity would be a difficult on a plastic (not ice) surface, but we had time to burn and decided to go ahead with it anyway.

The skating surface is plastic but the skates are ice skates. The surface actually does not provide enough friction for you to push off on your back foot and gain continuous forward momentum. You can literally slide the blade of your ice skate in all directions with ease - including sideways (i.e. In a direction perpendicular to the blade) which makes it impossible and probably dangerous to skate away from the rail. The best you can manage is basically to shuffle around.

We should have known because there was literally no one else skating - and every time we have passed the rink in the last two days it's been completely empty!

Maybe this space would be better utilized as a roller skating rink but at this point in time it certainly doesn't serve its advertised purpose. A pretty disappointing $10 gone to waste.

Took the kids here for a treat but the surface isn't ice but rather is a plastic type surface. The staff member said it would be different than ice and she was right. The skates are blunt and so don't have any grip on the surface meaning you slide sideways when trying to skate forward.

It was cheap but still a waste of money and not recommended at all for anyone who has skated on ice.

Avoid.

We attended with 2 adults and 2 kids (aged 4 & 10). The rink is plastic and the lady said more slippery than ice. My husband went out with the kids. He found that even though he could get skates for his size 11 feet they were very narrow and hurt a lot. We were there at 2pm and the first ones on the rink. The best thing about it was my 4 year old sat in the middle on the ground with 2 other girls and played and didnt get wet. It was an interesting experience. It wasnt that expensive.

You aren't allowed to bring your own personal skates here, so you are forced to use their rental skates, which have NO edge (I don't think they know what a skate sharpener is), and all the toepicks have been ground off the figure skates (for safety I guess?). They say that it is different because it's synthetic ice (which is fair enough), but the main problem here is that the skates will just slip from side to side if you try to skate at all (just simple stroking, never mind doing any turns or stopping), so most people at the rink were hobbling around like penguins, including me, and I have been skating regularly for several years so I know it is not a matter of skating skill.

Nevertheless, the atmosphere is unique I suppose, being right next to the foodcourt and around shops.

My daughter love this place. It's located near the food court at the other end of the shopping center. The skating ring is made of wax therefore it's more slippery than ice. For first hour including rental of a pair of skates is $9.00, additional hours is $3.00. The ring is quite big and enjoyable for children and adults
