About
The Palawan Butterfly Ecological Garden and Tribal Village is a place that reflects the mesmerising beauty of a province that is known as the "Last Frontier of the Philippines". It showcases a sheer variety or tropical butterflies from the Southern region of the country. These free flying butterflies are surrounded with live exhibits of scorpions, green-crested lizards, phasmid and mantises which are considered their natural predators. It is a window to the natural ecology of these colourful insects. Another added attraction are the rescued endemic wildlife of Palawan. These animals are given the chance of a second life by being rescued from poachers and wouldn't have survived in the wild because of the probability of suffering the same fate all over again. Like the Palawan Peacock Peasant and the Palawan Bearcat, these animals are now ambassadors of their own species in the wild. By educating the public about these wild yet gentle creatures the facility promotes public awareness about how our actions as human beings can affect greatly everything in our environment.

You don’t need to book a tour to go here. Just rent a motorcycle for 400 php/day and ride there. The entrance fee is super cheap, only 60 php/per. The tour guides are super friendly and knowledgeable about insects. The garden is beautiful to walk through. Of course it can’t compare with anything in the western world for obvious reasons. If you want to see a better butterfly garden then donate more money to this place for them to improve their facilities. The entrance fee of 60 pesos is nothing to help run the place. If you want to help the tribal people then donate your money to them. They’re there to hopefully make a living whether they like it or not. Just like any jobs, you do what you have to do to make a living whether to be a clown or a performer as long as you can earn some money to feed yourself and hopefully your family too.

Locals call it Butterfly Garden so we thought it was all-butterfly inside. We even refused the offer of our tour guide to visit this place. We were supposed to go to the Crocodile Farm but since it was closed for the holiday, we rerouted here.

We were welcomed with a photo session, and given the option of paying for the photos that would show that we've been here and held butterflies on our palms (edited of course).

We did not bother see the butterflies as we were more interested in seeing the bearcats and other caged forest animals that were rescued. We were also enthralled with the different kinds of anthropodes and insects that were displayed on open cages wherein tourists can dare touch and hold.

We get to meet one of the indigenous tribes from the south of Palawan, the Palaw'an Tribe. They performed their crafts and music in front of us and we get pose with them in their spears and arrows, as well as, hold their pet python and sat in front of their huts

A must-see in Puerta Princesa indeed

We went here after going to bakers hill, because it was close.
50 pesos entry and we had a short tour around the small enclosure, but it's such a lovely place! Amazingly they have local indigenous Palawan people, and they show some of their traditional crafts and musical instruments, and show some skills like making fire and shooting blow darts.
This felt like an absolute gem of a place, and while the butterfly's were amazing, they also had bearcats, (a real thing!) Scorpions geckos, some different insects and snakes.
If you're close, I recommend going, it won't take more than an hour and you'll be glad you went.
I suggest you buy something or put some money in the tip box, it's so cheap and the money goes to support the indigenous communities.

We visited here as part of a tour from a cruise ship.
The butterflies were disappointing - hardly any of them.
The few animals were kept in awful enclosures.
The tribal village was very artificial and was not a comfortable visit. I felt sorry for the people "living" there, who had to "perform" for the visitors.
Very touristy and I felt embarrassed to be a tourist here.
Fortunately the place is small and the visit did not last very long.

This was something different to see. First we went up to the tribal village and watched some demonstrations by them which was cool. Then they offered photos with them but I didn't really feel comfy doing it or with their pet python. The butterfly enclosure was nice and there's afew other animals you can walk around and see.

We cruised into Puerto Princesa and caught a local tut tut to the Butterfly Farm.
It was an experience and the ride was about 25mins.
Our driver/guide was excellent and the cost was $20 US.
The Butterfly Farm & Tribal Village was well presented and a guide took us around in groups and explained everything.
There is a small gift shop and a Cafe.
The toilets are western however very basic and not clean.

The place is not that bad, there’s a lot of butterflies, and other animals also. You will have a tour guide so that you won't get lost from the place and they will share to you a lot of information about the animals their. Plus a small village of what they call man cave or mountain mans.

The butterflies flutters around the park, while its natural predators like lizards and snakes are caged in glasses. The park also features crocodiles, pigs, bear and many other indigenous wildlife species.

The best part was the demonstration of the Palawan tribal life. The natural smile in the face of the indigenous people, who made Palawan island as their home thousand years ago,is priceless. Having their pet python around my neck was thrilling.

The products on display is largely to help their livelihoods. The entrance ticket is 50 pesos. This is a must-visit spot in Puerto Princesa.

Tiny cages for the animals and reptiles. Many of the butterflies had damaged wings. The tribal village seemed artificial and the tribe members awkward and unhappy to be there. I wouldn’t waste your time going - it was a stop on our city tour. If I had paid for a taxi to go there and back specifically I would have been extremely disappointed

Farm might sound like something big, but the butterfly farm was actually quite small. Nevertheless it had like hundreds (or maybe even thousands) of butterflies. Some of them really big and beautiful. So it's a nice short break from Puerto Princesa city and not far either. Those who want to experience something different - you can always try to take a scorpion in your hand (with the help from the local guide there). And for me personally, I enjoyed the living wall about evolution of the butterflies. It's one thing to learn it at school and another to see every day of it in action. Worth visit if you have time to spare (and on the way we saw a prison with gates that had a sign "Welcome" on top of it :) Not the public prison, but another one ;))
