Ship replica was closed (Dec 2023).
Modest exhibition with very few objects housed in the dark with write-ups entirely in Chinese. Sad as the subject of Admiral Cheng Ho deserves a much more in-depth treatment! Go to the Cheng Ho cultural museum in Malacca, Malaysia instead, for more information on the seven voyages, life on the ship etc.

The park was decent: peaceful but not particularly splendid.

There is one of these giant Chinese ships
from 1421
buried in the San Francisco Bay sand, where the Sacramento River joints the SF Bay. It is 85' long & 35' wide.
We are digging it up now to put it in a museum.

It was first found in 1980 by Dr. John Furry,

About 80 years before Columbus, Zheng He conducted a 27-year voyage of discovery. The park is the excavation of three of the six docks that made up the Longjiang Shipyard where Zheng He's ships were built. The replica of his flagship was closed for the winter when I was there. It's impressive as a feat of littoral-water naval architecture. Overall, the park is tranquil and pleasant -- a good way to spend a couple of hours contemplating a remarkable achievement.

Didn't really expect much from this place but was pleasantly surprised by it once we arrived. The entry fee is quite cheap, especially compared with some other tourist attractions. The actual ship is quite easy to find and we were excited to see the walkway on to the ship, unfortunately it was not open. We spent some extra time strolling the park and taking in the history. It was a very quiet and calming place while we were there. It's also easier to get to now with metro line 4 being open, just take the train to the longjiang terminal station. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Excellent park, only 20 RMB to enter this time of year. The ship itself is closed for the winter but the park is outdoors and very big. Lots to see and lots of carving on the wall about the many treasures thay were brought back from around the world. Unfortunately all the info about the treasures was in Chinese. But most everything else was in English and Chinese. I highly recommend this museum, especially for history buffs. I think the price is 30 rmb when the ship is open for tours.

took a cab there as there wasn't any metro station nearby and it took quite a while to reach(27 yuan from Zhonghua road). the ticket was at 20 yuan which i considered relatively expensive given the lack of exhibitions that the park could offer.

the park does have some interesting exhibition halls regarding the history as well as the function of the ship (description in Chinese ), but the highly anticipated treasure ship was closed during my visit !!

This is a great place to spend a few hours. The park is maintained well and has so much history.
The boat is fantastic.
Most of the information is in Chinese but we still managed to figure out most of the information.

This is where Zheng He build and launched his fleet that made 7 voyages around Asia and the Middle East. When He returned to China after the last voyage he found out that the old emperor had died and the new one wasn't interested in exploration. If the new emperor had been a man of vision the history of China would have been different thanks to people like Zheng He. It's an interesting place to see where Chinese history was made and lost and often forgotten.

Gavin Menzies' book "1421" describes the voyages. Aspects of the book are speculative and some details are circumstantial, but the author is passionate about the story and I was delighted to have read the book before visiting the park. The replica vessel is worth a visit, and the environment is pleasant, but the interpretation is minimal and - after nearly ten years - the quality of the presentation is starting to deteriorate. I hope the city will restore and augment the displays; it was an extraordinary part of China's history.
