This British-style candy shop is filled with rows of jars containing various types of candies. The variety of candies available is truly extensive, and it brings back childhood memories of enjoying these treats. Interestingly, they also offer the Chinese New Year gift box, along with traditional Chinese rice cakes, making it a perfect choice for Lunar New Year festive items.

Mr Simms is a UK-based chain of old-fashioned British sweets and confectionary shops that arrived in Hong Kong in 2014. Since then they have expanded, opening a handful of places around the city including this flagship on Lyndhurst Terrace in Central. Opening hours are around 10am to 8.30pm daily.

This is a fun little shop, aesthetically resembling the old-fashioned candy shops from bygone decades with shelves lined with buckets of jellies, gummies, laces, lollies and quite a few other hard and soft sweets. You'll find rows of chocolates, fudge as well as some boxes of international candy brands as well.

It is neat popping into a Mr. Simms from time to time, plenty of sweets and confectionaries to choose from and always a touch of nostalgia that has a way of making one feel young again!

The ambiance is lovely and reminds one of yesteryear. It looks amazing but they must not get much business because many of the things were stale. We got three selections from the jars, which were stale and not nice flavour. They had options starting from $35/ 100 grams. Normally shops would offer tastings but they didn’t.

They had little packets of corn starch things (in pic) that were on clearance, which we now know was because they weren’t nice. We also got a packaged up item for a gift of “retro Victorian Jar” ($108 less $40 discount) which we’re hoping is nice as we bought it as a gift. We also bought a packet of Jelly Belly Bean Boozled $48.

The two staff members were pleasant enough, and the prices weren’t more inflated than any other in HK. Just wish their products were more fresh.

The shops reminded us of the first scene in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the Gene Wilder version) where varnished wood shelves holds jars upon jars of candies... in this case, candies which I haven"t tasted or seen in a long time. It is a bit more expensive than in other shops but the added value here is the old school charm.

Its been a long time since I've seen a sweets shop so well laid out. The selection and display is excellent, even if you aren't buying anything its just worth going in and seeing skill and perfection in people's work
