What a feather in the cap of China producing this Olympic Area which is utilized by locals. The Birdsnest Stadium is amazing and there was a concert on the day we visited. The Cube aquatic center is being used by locals, as is the whole...More
Me and my husband went in a scientific meeting in convention center. The organizing committee booked for us one hote close to Olympic park (and of course Olympic Stadium). The place is really nice! A lot of space to run and walk, to children run...More
not as crowded as Tiananmen, but lots of locals, families, and turists all arround this extreme showcase of Chinese power - at least I could not get rid of this show-off feeling, and at the same time admire what they succeeded in so short time....More
When you think of the Beijing Olympics, many recall Phelps dominating the pool, the incredible designs behind the Water Cube and the National Stadium aka the Bird's Nest. Seeing the world come together in a city such as Beijing, amazing to see on television but...More

Green Line subway (#8) is best, getting off at "Olympic Sports Ctr". Green line intersects directly with Purple Line (#5), Light Blue Line (#10), Dark Blue Line (#2), Yellow Line (#13) and Changping (light lilac line but no # yet). All other subway lines require 2 transfers. So where you board depends on where you are starting from, but you want to end up on the Green Line (#8). There are color coded route maps in all stations and also most subway cars. Also each subway car has an electronic sign that notes all stops on its route, and highlights the current one. Signs are in both Chinese and English, as are oral announcements. You can find a great subway system map by googling "Beijing Subway System", but I can't reproduce the link here.
