Simatai, this part of the Great Wall was very steep, we took the cable cars up and walked up to point 10.. it was amazing and we had the wall for 15 mins with no other tourists.. this part is not as popular as others...More

The wall at Simatai is excellent. Though the smog was out, the viewing and walking the wall was fun. Part of the wall is in good shape and some is more of a ruin. The Water Town below is something else too. Great experience. Harry...More

The long distance is worth every effort. This area is not a crowded as the most common one. You get to see the difference between the renovated part of the wall and the raw old version! I recommend hiking towards or from the never area...More

Having previously been to Badaling Pass I was keen to find somewhere quieter and more authentic. Simitai was perfect. Wer strolled along a few kilometers of the Wall - it was really steep in places, but it was practically empty. I flew my drone along...More

Great experience. Fairly quiet compared to mutianyu. Not as restored but really cool to see the ‘original wall’. You don’t really appreciate it until you see a restored part like mutianyu. The weather as great and sunny so got some really nice pictures. There were...More

We walked through Gubei Water Town, which was fun. We then took the cable car up the mountain, and joked that we'd had to walk the rest as the cable car station was clearly a way below the summit. Well, you do! Its not an...More

We made it during an overcast day so it wasn’t as dramatic as some of the pics you’d find googling, but still worth the visit. The wall feels a bit more interactive, terrain on either side is more engaging, and the history is of course...More

There are 10 Tower sections from the river to near the top of the hill/mountain that can be walked here. The wall has been preserved up to a point to prevent further damage by the elements and time. 10 sections doesn't sound a lot at...More

I visited Simatai in August 1991 and it is an amazing place. From the photos it doesn't looked to have changed much. When I was there the PLA were being forced to repair parts of the wall from where they had taken bricks to build...More

Not at present. I wanted to watch the sunset but I just missed it as they closed just before sunset. You are allowed entrance for around 2-3 hours, They have time slotted entrances. They shut around 4.30/5pm.
