This is probably the farthest Great Wall site around Beijing, but by far the best one. It has not been much renovated, and you will feel like walking in history. A few places are steep, but my 6- and 9-year old completed the trip with...More

Simatai is the only section that you can enjoy sunset on the great wall. However only the section between tower 5 and tower 6 is open for public in the evening. It's a long walk (45min to 1hour) to walk through the watertown to get...More

It’s a bus ride then a cable car, and then a few hundred ancient steps to climb up, but what an experience. This part of the wall is only recently opened up to group tours, and is a little further from Beijing, so it does...More

Although the hike along this part of the wall provides impressive vistas during the day, stay overnight so that you can see it by night. It’s eerily beautiful and even though the accessible part is relatively small there’s still lots of space. You have to...More

I was at a conference here for a week and was able to visit the wall several times. There are 10 'turrets' accessible in this section. The first time, I climbed from the bottom all the way to the top which only took an hour...More

It's the Great Wall of China. I mean- IT'S THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA! How could your mind not be blown? Now you have to decide how you want your mind blown. From what I understand, there are very tame areas that were reconstructed and...More

This used to be a glorious part of the Wall. It was a small village with a few shops but in the last few years they have built a lot of hotels etc and slightly Disneyfied the place. However, if you are prepared to walk...More

Fabulous experience to see the Great Wall without all the tourists especially if you get there early. Unbelievable views! Gondola ride is excellent and be sure to spend lots of time at ancient Beijing gubei town

Not at present. I wanted to watch the sunset but I just missed it as they closed just before sunset. You are allowed entrance for around 2-3 hours, They have time slotted entrances. They shut around 4.30/5pm.
