Just do it. The trail up is steep and ~60 minutes for ~900m vertical. But oh so worth seeing the unrestored part of the wall as you head over to Mutanyu. Nobody there and you can see the real history right up close.

Hiking this section of the Great Wall is challenging but rewarding. There were some very dangerous areas, but the views are simply breathtaking - absolutely worth the risk. I would recommend hiking from Jiankou to Mutianyu; there you can find easy transportation from the wall...More

Beautiful but tricky hike. Doable if you're not fit, but not necessarily enjoyable! The views are breath-taking!

Amazing wall, I climbed up part of the wall that I could which is 21000km long. Impressive how they built up such a huge thing without cement. The wall was packed with people but it was really nice.

The amazing Great Wall is actually a series of walls first constructed over 2,000 years ago in an attempt to ward off northern nomads. This section is purported to be one of the best preserved. It's located on a steep and abrupt mountain ridge. There...More

We hiked this part of the Great Wall as part of a 2 day hiking and camping tour. Our group of 12 plus guides were the only people we saw on this part of the Wall! The weather was cold, windy and overcast when we...More

This part of the wall is sort of closed and requires some natives knowledge to guide you through. However, the scale of the wall, the views of auburn trees and not restored wall gives the feel of genuine authenticity. Even if it is crumbling it...More

You can try Beijing Walking +86 13581665548. We used Leo to take us to JianKou and hike to Mutainyu. You can also do it as an unguided tour. Reasonable price and provides transportation from Beijing.

It can be, depending on what form of transportation you can manage to arrange for the trip to the wall. Once st the wall you will want to spend a minimum 2 hours there. Have fun!
