The pyramid of Unas has only recently been opened after decades of being closed to the general public. Make sure not to miss it! Inside you will find the very first version of the Pyramid Texts. These are the first carvings done inside a pyramid...More

There isn't much left of Unas' pyramid, but what is unusual here are the pyramid texts in the burial chamber. These cover all the walls of both chambers and gave Egyptologists a real insight into the Egyptian religion.

Probably this is the best pyramid burial chamber you would ever seen, as its wall is fully covered with ancient Egyptian texts and carvings of what is known as the pyramid text which guide and protect the king through his after life. You will see...More

Don't dismiss this rather sad Pyramid which looks more like a small hill, than a royal Pyramid. Unlike the step climb into the Giza Pyramid, this is on a more gentler recline. Beware of the low headroom,in the passageway but once you enter the burial...More

From a distance, this pyramid in Saqquara (just outside Cairo) looks like a derelict pile of rocks. That's exactly what it is; the last 2000 years haven't been particularly kind to it. But if the burial chamber inside is open---and a person is capable of...More

One of the oldest pyramids which looks like just a pile of stones if you don't look carefully. Actually a very ancient monument. Worth taking on on tour.

But still cool to see because it's ancient. Make sure to go to the Mikerinos pyramid next to it since you can go inside and see where the tomb was located, and the step pyramid on the other side (oldest known stone structure).

If you don't know about the Pyramid of Unas prior to your arrival the Saqqara complex, you probably won't even notice it. Nearly totally in ruins now (the lower couple rows of blocks are still there), this pyramid once stood about 140ft tall and was...More

We were lucky enough to visit the burial chamber and walking to the chamber was unexpected. The entrance has a low-ceiling, so tall people 5'10" and above need to bend over and walk slowly for about 500ft. to get to the burial chamber. During the...More

The pyramids of Unas and Teti, both at Saqqara, are virtually identical. Both have a very deteriorated exterior, but both also have pyramid text completely covering the inner chamber walls. This will be your only chance to see hieroglyphs inside any pyramid in Egypt (accessible...More
