Nice but could be bigger than this. Video room was not working. The group before was so noisy and no one cared to tell them to lower their voice. We are in a museum after all.

A very special museum to those who love Om Kalthum. It is very small ..you can see it in 20 min ..plus 25 minutes for the short documentary of her life.
In the same place there is the Nilometer and the Manesterly Palace...also short visits .

Since you are in the area visit Mohamed Ali Palace first then go to the Om Kalthum Museum because on coming out of the gate ,after a 2 min walk, you will find a beautiful bridge ..take it to the other side n keep walking as if a straight line and u will reach the French mosque and Old Coptic Cairo and Amr Ibn Elass Mosque. There is a lot to see there.( this part was explained to me by a kind old man when I was asking for directions..I didnt do it myself but I wanted to mention it)

Below are pictures of the nilometer ,the door of the museum and some of the medals Om Kaltjum has recieved.

The Museum has a good personal collection of Um Kulthum's personal objects as well as an audio-visual library and a collection of musical notes.
It is open Fridays. A morning visit on a sunny winter day is highly recommended.
Plan a short visit to the adjacent Nilometer and Manesterly Palace.
The view from the Palace's terrace is beautiful; the palace itself is rundown, but worth seeing, in my opinion.

I had wanted to visit the museum on previous trips but somehow never managed to get there. I was so glad I did on this trip. A little difficult for our UBER driver to find but worth it if you are an Om Kalhtoum fan. Not crowded so you won't feel rushed. My favorite part of the visit was seeing her gowns, her famous scarf and sunglasses and viewing the video. The museum is situated on the grounds of Manesteraly Palace, where you can also visit the Nileometer, the palace and enjoy the grounds. Great photo ops from the tip of Roda Island.

A nice collection of dresses and other things for her life. But really, a legend like um kalthoom should have a museum that is 10 times bigger than this. The current museum should not take more than 30 minutes to finish.

. It is one of those museums for a part of travelers & not all.. It is for um kolthoum lovers & those interested to know about a great icon in Egypt & the arab world..
. This museum is a small one, (maximum time to be spent there is 45-60 min)
. It is near the Nilometer (actually directly beside it), so u can visit both at the same time
. It is on the nile river, at the very tip of the gezira island (zamalek), making it a great place for taking pictures.. Especially that it is so calm there & not crowded (because it is not a well known place) so mostly u will have the whole place for u & few 2-3 people..
. Inside the museum, u will pay the entrance fee at the door, & u will go through a circular path..
1st stop: um kolthoum dresses..
2nd stop: audio-visual room, where u can find all things written about om kalthoum in the news, her songs notes, & u can listen to her songs & read about her life..
3rd stop: her musical instruments, radios, discs, diaries, & sun glasses..
4th stop: a room were u can watch a 15 min documentary about un kolthoum..
. This museum is one of the most clean & calm touristic sites in cairo..
. I highly recommend it for Um Kolthoum & Old arabic music lovers..

While visiting the Nilometer, don’t miss the chance to see the Umm Kolthoum Museum. The tickets are less than a US Dollar, it isn’t big, it isn’t fancy but it does showcase the wonderful Egyptian Singer who could sing for 4 hours at a time without fault. For those in the Arabic World, she is well known, for others, perhaps not so well known but she is one of the most prolific female singers of her time. Enjoy the brief respite from the noise, people, and heat, and learn about Umm Kolthoum.

The most famous female Egyptian singer who died in 1975 is honored with this small museum at the southern tip of Roda Island. The exhibition shows some dresses Umm Kolthoum was wearing during her performances, many pictures of her and her friends and colleagues, rewards, grammophon records. However there is litlle information about who she was, her music and her impact on Egyptian society. It was not possible to listen to any of her music as the device in the small theater was defect. Hope they will improve this museum.

Entrance fee for foreigners 6 EGP
Access with public transportation is probably easiest by metro to Mar Girgis station and walk from there ro Roda Island.

The museum is hidden away at the end of the island, not many people even know it’s there. My husband is a great fan of Umm Kalthoum so when looking for something a bit different for a day out with friends we found our way here by GPS as the taxi driver had never heard of it!
The guard was ever so polite in asking for our IDs, which we realised afterwards was to establish if we were entitled to free entry as we were over 60!
The museum is small but holds some good pieces of history, pictures, here awards from many other countries, some of her dresses and shoes, as well as her diamond encrusted spectacles. The video show was not working during our visit, and I did think (even though I really don’t like her music) that it would have been much more atmospheric had they been playing her music.

Don’t miss the nileometer next to the museum (separate entry tickets), and the great views of the Nile.

This is seriously a hidden gem in Cairo. The museum, while small, is very well organized and really showcases the beauty that is Om Kalthoom. The museum is right next to the Nilometer so you can check out both sites together.
