An ancient railway station that started to build since the colonial era. It has been used until today. Its maintain the beauty of the old architecture, and it will be continued for services soon, and we don’t know the long trip plan and it is not starting. A local circular train ticket is available.

It is the largest railway station in Myanmar but don't expect too much amenities here. While this station needs to upgrade and some places are under operation.

As for the famous and routinely recommended circular train trip, it's not as great experience as many say it is.

I came to this station for circular train trip, but now a days one was totally closed because of Military coup and democratic leaders are being detained. You may try this train when you on Trip in Myanmar.

a very original way to discover Yangon, an atypical train journey, a little difficult to find again for directions and timetables, but the people are so nice that they will help you to make a pleasant trip

Was a very pleasant exercise, viewing local Yangoners going about their business. We stayed on for about an hour and when we got off, were amused to see a group of women selling a large range of vegetables on the platform. What better than to pick up your supper on your way home from work!

A slow but enjoyable train ride north to Taungoo, to stay at the lovely Myanmar Beauty Hotel. 5am start and a 9 hour journey, but lots of interest on the way, passing through rural villages and seeing much more than from the road. The only drawback was that our upper class carriage had window-panes too opaque to see through when sitting (OK when standing). Cost a mere 4,000 Kyat each (about £2.30, including the compulsory life insurance). Almost fell for the classic ticket scam. Sent from the main ticket counter across the road bridge to the official booking office for advance sales, the other side of the tracks. Not immediately obvious where it was but taken in hand by a very helpful gentleman who was going that way. He showed us into the office and left with a handshake and a wave. But there were problems. When the clerk phoned to confirm the seats he found that the train was sold out (because of the school holidays). Problems with the buses too, but luckily he had a friend with a car who could take us to our destination for only $150. We made our excuses and left. A few minutes later we discovered the real booking office and bought our tickets. On the day of travel our carriage was almost empty.

The railway station building its self has a colonial feeling. If you are planning on taking any trains do your research because it seems scheduled change constantly. During my visit you go to gates 6 and 7 to take the trains.

Firstly an impressive colonial design railway building, pre-WW-2 built and a bit run-down yet functional, one can see the ticket selling office in the original old style ! Long timber counters, each with a small window for buying tickets where inside is the workplace those officers prepare tickets for sale. A long walk leading to a footbridge crossing the railway lines, one can take nice pictures of the railway from above. The locomotives are all diesel powered, each looks 1960 / 70 design but work perfectly well; the train compartments are primitive, with long seats like those in city metro, unfortunately these are not air conditioned ! There were hawkers shuttling between compartments selling all kinds of food and drinks to passengers. After a not too long wait, the train started to move, not at great speed, but the next station is always within 5 minutes while in the city; classic and primitive stations were seen on our way to the destination. Commuters often carried with them large bags of articles instead of luggage, likely to be for commercial selling. The weather in January is not hot, no sweating experience although the ceiling fans in train compartment were not turned on.

A very nice place in Yangon. The central station with circulation train around the city that would be one of the most interesting activities in the capital of Myanmar.
The construction is remained for long time but being in good condition in use.
It is not so hard to buy ticket for tourists like us, because they have all the guidance sign in each lane.
