An essential part of any trip to Yangon - the synagogue has been beautifully maintained by Sammy Samuels and family (despite a small jewish population of about 20).

This is a historic synagogue that once served the large Jewish population that lived in Rangoon mostly before WWII. Sammy and his family from Shalom Travel are doing a wonderful job of preserving its history and renovating it to its old glory.

We made a short stop at Yangon's only synagogue in the middle of the day when the temperature was too hot for sightseeing outside. It was indeed interesting to visit a synagogue in a major Buddhist country. There are photos on display depicting the history of the small Jewish population in Yangon. It's worth a visit while in the city.

this synagogue made me think of the Jewish life in the 1900s as this Synagogue used to be the home of over 2000 Torah and, now, it has only two. I'm sure you will want to know more about Jewish people in Myanmar after visiting this.

Never thought of visiting a Jewish Synagogue in a popular Buddhist nation of Myanmar. I could see Myanmar (especially in Yangon) is a melting pot of different religions and races, of which we easily see Buddhist temples, churches, mosques and even synagogue in the same city area. Hoping this harmony spirit will lift up forever, cheers!

Earlier generations of this family established this synagogue so that they and their Jewish friends, neighbors, and families could continue to observe their traditions of millennia. While the size of the community shrank dramatically since the 1950's, the family still maintains this congregational home. This is a "MUST SEE" for Jewish tourists, as well as many Christians as well. It is beautiful and inspiring.

The only synagogue in Myanmar with a fascinating history. Remarkable that it has been maintained by one family. In a city with such a diversity of places of worship, it was worth stopping to take in the serenity of the synagogue.

You don’t have to be Jewish to enjoy and appreciate the historical significance of this museum. No charge for admission. There is a donation box. A wonderful collection of historical photographs of the Jewish community in Yangon.
