A sombre well kept memorial and if so inclined is very much worth a visit. There is great history here and is particularly important to Australia, New Zealand and to Papua New Guinea in the struggle of the Second World War.

My brother and I visited Bomana to find the grave of our uncle who was killed during the war in 1942. The cemetery is beautifully maintained. The rows of white marble headstones against the green grass feels somehow calming, although it is indeed very sad...More

Getting out to the cemetery was not too challenging. Suggest to use the hotel courtesy bus as they drop of and pick up for a set price.

The price paid by so many young diggers becomes all too apparent as you wander through the headstones of this immaculately kept cemetery. To see the ages of the fallen and the messages from loved ones chiseled in the marble evokes so many emotions. After...More

Beyond the legitimate emotions this solemn place generates, this war cemetary is far from being as impressive and heart-breaking as those from the 1st and 2nd WWs in Europe. May be this is due to the general lack of information/explicative notes. Its purposes is obviously...More

After completing the Kokoda Track a visit to the Bomana War Cemetery really brings the Kokoda Campaign into perspective. So many young Australians laid to rest after fighting in terrible conditions. All Australian visitors to PNG should visit this beautifully maintained cemetery to pay their...More

Visited Bomana War Cemetery on business trip to Port Moresby. It was beautifully cared for and very moving. There is a separate memorial for the missing service personnel. Most moving was the fact that the New Guineans who were killed during the war are buried...More

Hi there, I was with friends who are used to driving in PNG, I wouldn't recommend you drive yourself if you are unfamiliar with PNG. The drive is not that far, about half an hour from memory.
