Witches Market

There are many shops here selling all sorts of interesting items which are part of the Bolivian traditional culture/practices. Worth a visit.

Thumbs Up!

We lucked out as we stayed close to the 'Witches' Market'. If you're in the market for Llama fetuses, Bolivian armadillos, aphrodisiacs, turtles, frogs, snakes and magic potions then this is the place to explore and get your fix.

According to ancient beliefs most of the merchandise are used in rituals to bring love, health, wealth, longevity, happiness, and many more positiveness into your lives.

Regarding the Llama fetuses, they don’t actually kill the baby llamas but collect them from the miscarriages. The Llama fetuses are to be buried under the foundation of homes/houses for protection, good luck and prevent mishaps while under construction.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. There are a few artisan stores selling unique handicrafts and souvenirs and then there's those run-of-the-mill stores.

Well worth a visit although it takes up only a small part of this touristy area.

Visited the Las Bruchas and found it special. Textiles, fruits were of the highest quality and at best price compared to Chile and to Peru

Trip to La Paz
Jan 2020 • Family
You cannot say that you have been to La Paz without mention the Witches Market or Mercado de las brujas, it is the most amazing place. You will be able to find handmade crafts, silver, wool as well as items for witchcraft. There are a line up of stores to buy from, either to fix lovers, families, finances etc. The market starts from the San Francisco Church up to the end of a very long street. Worth seeing even if you do not believe in witchcraft but want to buy gifts to bring home.

Best program in town

You have the Mercado de las brujas with all “specials” ingredients and there costumes. Take advantage and ask the meaning of things. People are really nice and like to explain there costumes.
On the other streets you will find a lot of gifs mainly with the typical tissues like beautiful pillows, scarfs, etc
You can always try to negotiate a bit the price but not like half of it.

Haven't seen anything similar to this in other places
Jan 2020
The Witch's Market was smaller than we thought, but it was still very interesting for us to see as it was not similar to things we have seen in other places. The fact that these are still popular and actively in use was amazing for us, especially offering baby llamas!

Incredible colorfull!

Best area to see and contact the bolivian traditions, with them colorful and beautiful things. You can buy a lot of souvenirs at incredible lower price, and you can bargain. Don't miss! (and buy one more suitcase).

Visit only if you have time to spare

If you miss this, you have not missed out on much. Odd things for sale which was not going to make it into my suitcase. I doubt customs would have been happy with. Taking pictures was also a no no.
I appreciate that what they sell is useful in their culture.

Shop with Altitude in Bolivia!
Dec 2018 • Business
I started a great day with running gear and a route they took me right into the Mercado to see it all at a jog pace and then go back to get the goodies I liked… 12,000 is the highest altitude I’ve ever run at and boy does it take a toll on you… Kind of feels like being drunk in a snowstorm… The slice of life in the town and through the market is awesome with food at every turn and people teaming with stuff to sell everywhere… Amazing!
