Overview
More
Much like its neighbour le Grand Serail (the Lebanese government building), the Clock Tower (Tour de l'Horloge) is an Ottoman structure. It was erected in 1897, around the same time that nearly every city in the Levant received a clock tower by the Ottomans. The design is by the Lebanese architect, Youssef Aftimos, who later designed two of the most beautiful edifices in Beirut: the Municipal Building and Barakat Building. The clock tower stands in front of the main entrance of le Grand Sérail on a hill dominating central Beirut.

It was scaffolded when we visited and guarded by soldiers. What is important of this place: you can feel the 30es years the grandiose stone buildings and the time when Liban was a French protectorate. But simultaneously you see the relaxed people watching Football World...More

Most of the reviews listed here are about the clock tower on the Place de l'Etoile (another address as in the listing). Adding to the confusion is a photo of another clock tower. Anyway the clock tower at the Place de l'Etoile with the Rolex...More

There is nothing special about the clock tower which was rebuilt to look like the original one. Its next to the Nejmeh Place and if your already in Down Town pass by but I wouldn't recommend coming specifically to see

The clock tower or Tour del'Horloge looks good, but there are no cars allowed in the area, All roadblocks with police and military, so it looks a bit dull.

Located next to the Lebanese parliament and frequently visited by loud families and teenagers, not much really to see or do hear except hear the crying of babies and smell the smoke of wazawez teenagers... not recommended.

It is the center of Beirut dawn town, all important and government buildings are near it, most of night life is near it too.

The area around the square is interesting and worth visiting but the clock tower is average. Do not be deterred by the army guarding the area around the square, we found them friendly and helpful to tourists.

The clock tower isn't really a separate tourist attraction, but is the tower you'll see in the middle of the Place de L'Etoile, if you visit there. It's worth a visit, though a little surreal as the streets are largely deserted. Plenty of pigeons for...More
