We were on a small tour run by MIR. We were concerned about going, because of questions about rigid religiosity and previous mistreatment of women in the country, but found those doubts unfounded and the country to be delightful: scenery to rival the American Southwest, colorful bazaars, elegant mosques, courteous and friendly people, vibrant cities, etc. A pleasant surprise!

The best tourist attraction in Riyadh, the place is very beautiful, and they welcome foreign tourists. You will learn beautiful cultural and historical information, and there are friendly and professional tour guides, many thanks to them.

The wonderful atmosphere at Makkah’s Aisha-Al-Rajhi Masjid. It can hold about 50000 worshippers and boasts many more impressive attributes. The mosque is built on the Ottoman model .

Riyadh has some truly beautiful Mosques, and the Al-Rajhi Grand Mosque must rank amongst the best.
The amazing scale and beautiful and intricate design is not overwhelming, but elegant and calming. The centerpiece chandelier is the highlight, but it is complemented by the carpets, colors and paneling which enhance the design and patterns throughout.
Our host spoke excellent English and answered any and all of our questions regarding the nature and structure of the mosque, a prayer session and the religion of Islam. We were allowed to admire the architecture, and sit in the visitor gallery to watch one of the prayer sessions. The mosque contains prayer areas for males and females (the combined areas can accommodate over 20,000 worshipers) and houses a library, research area, lecture rooms, and conference rooms.
This was an exceptional and rewarding educational and hospitable experience.
A must-see and must-do when visiting Riyadh

This was an educational and hospitable experience. I was with a group. After placing our shoes in racks, we were taken to a large hospitality space for afternoon tea, and a talk about the nature and structure of a prayer session. We then were taken to admire the architecture, and sit in the visitor gallery to watch an afternoon session: three segments (other sessions can run to five), plus a funeral segment. Our host spoke excellent English, and also answered many questions. I've been in many much-smaller mosques, and have observed prayer rooms in public buildings, and watched personal sessions on footpaths and in trains. This put them all into context.
The mosque also houses a library, lecture rooms, and bookable rooms for funeral groups.

As part of a stopover in Riyadh, this Masjid was recommended as a 'must-see' by locals and i have to say it is was truly stunning.
Outside of the Haramain in Mecca / Madinah, Riyadh has some truly beautiful Masajids, amongst which the Al-Rajhi Grand Mosque must rank amongst the top and truly lives up to its grand name.
There is ample parking around the Masjid complex and once inside space aplenty for men and women.
You are taken in with the sheer scale and intricate design resembling 18th century architecture. However, it is not overwhelming, you can sit back and admire how elegant it is. The centre-piece chandelier is the highlight, but it is complemented by carpets, colours and paneling which enhance the design and patterns throughout. This Masjid is about the seeping space, there are few pillars which hinder the flow and you a great feeling of awe.
You need time to simply relax and enjoy being here and feeling enriched spiritually.

Is there a day/time when a non-muslim may request a brief tour of the facility to admire? I want to be respectful but always feel pleased to view various religious structures and admire the devotion they display. I usually leave cameras unless they are specifically encouraged.
