After visiting the Roman Theater, it is well worth climbing the stairs and hill to visit the Citadel. There are great views of the old city from there and there is a museum with several artefacts several centuries old.
Situated on a mountaintop above Amman, this ancient historical site offers spectacular 360 degree views of the city and its landmarks. The temple of Hercules, an excellent museum containing artefacts dating back to Neanderthal times. Tip:: On site cafe will give you WIFI password if...More

I didn’t feel comfortable using local taxi. A private driver is the way to go. He will be available for you to schedule the whole time of your visit to Amman. Clean car and no fuss to request any of the historical sites as well as shopping or even traveling to Petra and wadi rum, I highly recommend these sites also. I traveled as a solo female with no problems. The driver can be your translator as well. This I found to very beneficial. The driver price can be negotiated. In Amman a driver may not be a tour guide, at all of the sites you will find free lance guides. With negotionable fees. Or use trip advisor for private tours. Hotels also can set up private driver. One may see several sites in one day.
