About
The seal of a biblical priest who served in the First Temple, a rare silver half-shekel coin that was used for the Temple tax according to biblical law, arrowheads from the destruction of the first temple, jewels, and many more exciting discoveries were made over the years while sifting soil from Jerusalem's Temple Mount. Many more treasures are still hiding in this unique soil and you have the opportunity to discover them! Over 250,000 people already took part in this endeavor, will you also be part of this huge public heritage preservation project? Background: Since 2004, the Temple Mount Sifting Project has been sifting the soil destructively and illegally bulldozed from the Temple Mount in order to preserve, research, and publish the archaeological history of this ancient and holy place.

    Family fun!
The Temple Mount Sifting Project is a great family activity. My four kids (ranging from 8-14) absolutely loved the experience. They would have stayed all day, if possible. It's so special to be able to contribute towards uncovering archeological findings. My husband and I also had a great time. The staff was wonderful and really helped enhance our visit.

    Educational and fun.
Our family took part in the sifting project on a hot day in August and we all, ages 4 to 63 enjoyed the experience . Our archeologist guide Yuval managed to engage all ages with explanations, history and background. The children ( and the adults) especially enjoyed the sifting and were excited with their findings- one of which was a small fragment of the rim of a pot from the First Temple era. Despite the heat the area is shaded and comfortable and we also enjoyed the shaded picnic area. We highly recommend this activity for all ages .

    A Wonderfully Unique Experience
The Temple Mount Sifting Project is such a unique experience. We absolutely loved it! This is a great activity for people of all ages. There were some younger families participating as well as older people. The Temple Mount Sifting Project was started after many, many truckloads (around 400) of debris were removed from the Temple Mount during an unpermitted construction build. Archeologists were not able to look at the site before the removal took place. You are sifting through the material that was removed. This is what makes it so unique! Once the debris is gone, the project will be over! After learning a little bit about the material and how the project came to be, you get straight to work. The process of explaining what to look for and how to do it is very straightforward. You pick a bucket of material that was taken from the site and start looking. Everyone found something - marble, nails, pottery, beads. I found a coin!! Even on a very hot summers day, it was comfortable working as it is a shaded area. If you are a fan of archeology or are just looking for something different, you will absolutely love this calm and fun activity!

    Wonderful half day activity
Wonderful half day activity. We took our grandchildren (aged 6 and 8), and although some of the pre-sifting talk was a bit beyond them, the actual activity was great and they had a great time. There was also a great summary after the sifting of the items we had found. Easy parking and a great activity.

    One of a kind experience
Amazing experience. Most museums give you a nice history lesson, but here it really comes alive. They tell the story based on artifacts they have found on the temple mount. But the best part is that YOU get to be part if that. You are the first person to sift through your bucket of rocks. You don't know what you will find there. It could be coins, it could be pieces of a mosaic floor from the first or second temple. It was the highlight of my trip.

Touching and discovering 3000 years of history
I met the Mehani family in the morning and sought to understand what they wanted to do. A couple with a teenager studying here for the year. The young student, Ovadia, said, an activity, something to do. We were later joined by another family also with teenagers. For logistic reasons we came 45 minutes late and we were still greeted warmly, saw the movie, and go to work. Everyone enjoyed it. One found a tiny bronze ring which was an earring from the time of the First Temple. Another found a jar handle impressed with a seal. It will be taken to the lab to be treated and perhaps letters will become clear. l

    Alone at the Top
I was the only one in my sifting session which was great. I know that the sifting site people would want every session full but I enjoyed the 1:1 attention of my guide. I was able to accomplish more and didn't have to worry about making a mistake. This was a fun experience and I would recommend it to individual travelers as well as couples and families.

Fun and educational for our family
Such a great time. We did this 13 years ago, so it was nice to come back with our kids and see them enjoy the discovery process. The staff are so helpful and knowledgeable, and do a great job interpreting and contextualizing the finds.

Hands-on history, archaeology, and fun in one place!
This was an absolutely amazing opportunity! My wife and I could spend all day there. Just to think we are finding historical artifacts from the Temple Mount is at once humbling and exciting. We highly recommend it! Thank you to Yuval and Melissa for being so kind, so patient, and so very informative. We definitely want to go back!

Experience was really exiting and educational. It was easy to find the sifting location. It felt that we are doing the right thing, and we are giving our small contribution to the finding about the history of the Temple Mount. We are Orthodox Christians and it felt important and natural that we participate in the sifting project. Our onsite educators and guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. I certainly hope that we will participate again in the Sifting Project, sometime in the future.

Now our 4th time going as a family! Even though we live in Jerusalem, we always love going to sift and connect to our people's roots. It's loads of fun!
