You will reach to Masada, where you will see the lowest point on earth from above, make unique pictures and live an once in a life time experience. After the breath-taking views from Masada Fortress head to the Ein Gedi Reserve, where you get to see the waterfalls and springs in the middle of the desert landscape. Now it's time to experience the world famous Dead Sea and cover yourself with the mud that is known for it's minerals and rejuvenating properties. Herod's Western Palace is within the Masada Fortress which is within Masada National Park. All three of these attractions should be merged into one as most people do not know the difference between them. Most of the reviews written for all three are actually for the fortress. There are few reviews for the National Park and Herod's Western Palace. Herod's Western Palace is on the western side of the fortress, between the Byzantine Gate and the Byzantine Church. There are some nice floor mosaics. Architecturally it is not as visually intriguing as the northern palace. There are some nice views of the Roman siege camps towards the west.

Considering the location being so isolated on the top of a very steep mountain in the extremely hot desert it is truly an amazing architectural accomplishment to have built such an elaborate and detailed palace here.

Remnants of this palace is actually at one of the corners of the Masada Fortress on top of the mountain. It consists of 3 levels below the top of the mountain. It appears to be less than ideal place to build a palace as once surrounded by enemies, there's no escape even though the enemy could not get to you. All they have to do is to wait it out until you run out of food or water. Anyway, lots of history that only a good guide can explain to you so definitely arm yourself with a good tour guide to learn about Herod and his mountain palace.
