I had a free day and knew what I wanted to see. There are group tours but they spend ridiculous amounts of time in each place. I hired a guide and emailed him my list. We started with a ferry trip, then the spice markets and spent the day walking with visits to the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, the Basilica Cistern and the Grand Markets. Finished the day off up near Taksim. It's a must visit part of town but a guide will make it a richer experience and help you to skip any lines.…

Istanbul is a great city, worth visiting every season and even during the Covid period, when the hotel prices are so low and no crowds in the streets.. Some advices. There are no lines anymore to Haja Sofia or Blue Mosque. Blue mosque is still under renovation and currently you will not see its inner beauty. Haja Sofia is no longer the museum, as it is an acting mosque the mosaics are covered by the cloth (depiction of faces is prohibitied by Coran), the second floor is closed - but it is still worth visiting to feel the space, which looks very beautifull with the lamps. During the weekends the museums and mosques are open for visitors, but the stores are mainly closed. Süleymaniye mosques in open on saturday, but the CamiiThe hours of operation in some sightseeing places are one hour shorter. The Basilica (water storage) is closed currently because of covid.…

If you're coming to this country into the city you must visit the Spice Market and a Grand Bazaar. There is a little coffee shop on entry to the Grand Bazaar on the right hand side with a package and small units for a beautiful gift to take home difference. I really enjoyed both these places immensely…

In Istanbul everything is history. In every corner of the city you can breathe the great empire that once became. There is very good care of all the iconic facilities, from the Mosques to the Palaces, parks and cobblestones, Everything is very well preserved.
