A very good museum to see the blends of culture of the silk road. I spent a little over an hour there, going fast without any extensive reading. Do not miss: - the Oxus “treasure”: beautiful gold artefacts showing the blend of hellenistic and other...More

Get an English speaking guide or it's not really worth it. This is a very good museum located on two floors. However, the displays have minimal explanations. We had an excellent English speaking guide who gave us a tour of about 1 hour. The museum...More

Visiting the National Museum of Tajikistan last summer it is amazing in its scope of all it encompasses. So many geological, cultural and historical items on display with good signage and all in a shiny (fairly) new property with all the bells and whistles. We...More

This unassuming museum has a lot of real stuff excavated at the different archeological sites around the country. Some of the highlights include the reclining Buddha and the skeleton of a princess from 5000 years ago. Of course the museum needs a lot of upgrades...More

My clients took me for a walk and we decided to have a look at this impressive building which depicts Tajikistan's history since the earliest geological epoch to the present day. It also features local artists' work and has a brilliant display of some of...More

As we understand it, there are more “originals” of the archeological finds here than in the other Museum. So really swell Alexander the Great era items. The reclining Buddha is put back together reasonably well ( but the ones in Burma and Thailand are longer)....More

An amazing piece of architecture as well as containing some magnificent pieces of Tajik history and culture. At the time of writing (March 2018) it cost 25 Somoni (TJS) equivalent to £2 entry and an extra 10 TJS (80p) to be allowed to use cameras....More

Spent probably four hours there on Saturday. The lying Budda shown in the photo is most impressive even if it is a duplicate of the original which is supposedly in Samarkan. We hired a guide who was knowledgable and gave a really nice tour in...More

We were given a tour by very good guide who had studied archeology in Germany. If you are interested in archeology it is a definite must; however it's not an 'all bells and whistles' kind of a place - pretty serious place. I ticked my...More

I wish I could say this is a must-see museum for every tourist in Tajikistan, but I can not. Depending on you likes and prefences, you will either stroll slowly from one floor to another mesmerized by the historical artifacts of Central Asia or just...More
