It is worth a visit when in Baku. A very prominent place along with the Heyder Alliyev Cultural Museum - perhaps one of the most photogrHed buildings in the world

easy to visit by yourself. A colossal mosque by its simplicity of used materials so beautiful. The huge book of marmor on square is equally beautiful.

Decided to take a trip to the Heydar mosque for afternoon prayers, however the main section of the mosque is always closed except for Friday and Eid prayers. However, I was lucky enough to have been given a tour of the main mosque.

This is a new, grandiose and beautiful mosque built in 1994 after regaining independence from the Soviets. I am surprised they didn't find a closer to center location to build it. The mosque is in the northern residential suburbs and don't bother with any other...More

The mosque looks amazing at night but to get there means wandeing way out of the centre to one of the little visited microrayons in the north of town.

This is a relatively new post-independence Azerbaijan mosque. It's exterior has four narrow minarets rising above a huge dome. The embellishments on the exterior sandstone surfaces are in Shrivanshah style. The interior is totally different. It is a combination of whites. It is done more...More
