If you have the opportunity to take Sophie's Art Tour in Ho Chi Minh City, you should. Sophie is a wealth of information and weaves the country's history together with the art scene. It was one of the most interesting tours I have ever had the pleasure to take! The tour not only goes to the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts, but to some private galleries/collections as well.

Sophie is so knowledgable, eloquent and obviously passionate about what she does. She made Vietnamese art accessible to us when we knew nothing going in and it was the best foray into the nation's history we could have asked for. Cannot recommend it enough!

Sophie is incredibly knowledgeable and clearly immersed in Vietnamese art history and the contemporary art scene. She tells a story of Vietnamese history and culture through the lens of local artists. I loved it and will do her Hanoi tour when I travel there. The tour deepened my knowledge of and appreciation for this country and culture.

Our adventure in Vietnamese art, history, and culture left us spellbound. We have organized and led tours in 16 countries and have been tour participants in a host of other countries as general travelers. This was the finest educational journey we have ever witnessed. Smart, articulate, culturally aware and honest, with an assortment of teaching tools from iPad to hands on posters and art, Sophie was the consummate guide. Her small group approach was succulently delivered at cafes, private and public museums, while sitting, standing, or on the move. The pedagogy was superior. Value for money, it was a bargain.
If you want to understand Vietnamese art, then you need the history, nuances, and cultural aspects of the country to stitch it together. Sophie is the master seamstress who can do this.

Stu was our guide for the morning. He is very knowledgeable about modern history and also a very good source of information on art and artists. We went to 4 different galleries and he did a marvellous job putting everything into context. He's also very entertaining and made the tour very enjoyable. It's pedestrian enough yet historically and contextually fascinating. It's a tad expensive but worth every penny.

I cannot recommend this strongly enough. Wasn't too excited but all my friends wanted to do it so I went along. It was excellent! Stuart, our host was thoroughly entertaining and knowledgeable. A great history & art lesson plus a wonderful way to see the city. Go, go go! Well worth the money spent.

We are not art people but after reading the reviews of Sophie’s Art Tour Saigon we thought let’s give it a go and we were so glad we did.
Even though it is about art it is so much more. A tour of homes that you would never get access to but with mind boggling paintings on show, a really terrific history lesson of Vietnam and the part the artists played in its history.
Stu was our guide and was really great fun and kept us entertained the whole time.
If you have time book yourself to do this tour you certainly won’t regret it.
Also, have a happy holiday Stu!

We went on the tour with Stu today and had a wonderful experience. The tour is about much more then art; he told the last 150 years of Vietnamese history through the country's art. Stu is very knowledgeable, and had nice visual aids through the iPad and print examples. The visit to the Duc Minh Private Museum was fascinating as was the visit to The Factory Contemporary Art Centre.
We highly recommend the tour, which is an excellent value ($US65 or 1.5M Dong at current exchange rates). Stu even arranged to have the car drop us at our cruise ship at the end of the tour, rather than returning to the starting point.

This was an incredible tour which explores various locations within the city from galleries-coffee shops-antiques-etc. What a great way to experience Vietnamese history through the appreciation of art during those time periods. Stu was a fantastic guide who was enthusiastic and incredibly knowledgable. Our whole group agreed, this is a must-do in Saigon and was a highlight of our trip.

I emailed her today and got "Thank you very much for your message, Sophie’s Art Tour is currently on a research sabbatical which means I will not be running regular tours in Hanoi or Saigon until further notice."

Hi Elisabeth, my sincere apologies for not answering this sooner. I am not running regular tours but I do run occasional tours in Hanoi and Saigon. They are announced in my bi-weekly newsletter which you can subscribe to on our website. The newsletter lists lots of fantastic arts events going on in Vietnam including exhibitions, film screenings, performances, gigs and workshops and more! I have tours running in Hanoi and Saigon over the next few months which will be announced there. Best Wishes
Sophie
