The Saigon Opera House, which is very small in external size, was built in 1898 by French architect Eugène Ferret in the "vivid" style of the French Third Republic. A compilation of several styles, in particular classical and baroque. It looks really good. Maybe too many small details, shapes and bas-reliefs contributed to the project by the architect. The caryatids and the columns below under the arc-shaped archway above didn't stack in my head once. However, the facade is interesting, with three huge doors and figures in the style of the Greek caryatids of Erechteion. The architect demanded that the granite used to build the theatre and furniture be imported from France. Everything has been done in strict terms.

It is said that AOSHOW inside HoCHiMinh Opera House is one of the best show i have seen when I visted Saigon.
HoChiMinh is very famous city and it is worthy place to explore everything. Beside Mekong Detal, Cu Chi Tunnel, AOSHOW is one the best show you must see indeed. You have to book the tickets if you want to enjoy. The hotel staff will help you to book the ticket and they are experts. You buy the ticket at Opera House or hotel staff helps you...the price is the same. There are 3 kinds of ticket. AH cheap one, next is OH middle one, and WOW the best one on the first floor.
I suggest you can pay a bit more you will have a good seat and view. That means you should choose OH or Wowwww. It is so amazing. The show will make you very suprise and you feel relaxing indeed.
One more thing is you can have a short tour to look around Opera Bulding as well as enjoy welcome drink...Must see it when you explore Hochiminh. The show is not too long- just one hour and 10 minutes.
Highly recommend to Travllers all.

We saw the AO show on December 31st and had a great time! The performance deserves 5 stars and the place is very much worthy of a visit. The performance was sometimes funny, sometimes elegant, and even interactive at times.
I do recommend taking the seats where you get to see the extra minutes in the performance. I did not understand what that meant at first but it means that in the other seats, you simply cannot see the full stage. So there will be times that you hear the music but do not see what’s happening even though your seats don’t appear to be obstructed when purchasing the tickets.

Another beautiful building from the French colonial era the Opera House of Saigon is one of the points where citizens and tourists meet to take pictures, go to the theater and observe the center, being Christmas period in front was full of people and parked cars, even the double-decker Bus left right in front. Built in 1897, it is home to the Ho Chi Minh city Ballet and Symphony Orchestra, but is well known for evening cultural shows such as AO and Teh Dar. Very nice garden that surrounds it.

Went to a performance organized by Uniworld. The show was spectacular and well worth going if your in the city.
We were on the upper level and had an excellent view of the performance by the very talented performers.
There is no photography allowed and of course a shop at the entrance for trinkets etc

The architecture is stunning, and stepping inside feels like stepping into history. I caught a live performance here, and the acoustics were impressive. The atmosphere was lively yet intimate, making the whole experience unforgettable. Whether you're into opera or just want to soak up some culture, it's definitely worth a visit while you're in Saigon!

I attended the AO show at the Saigon Opera House last night. It was truly an amazing acrobatic performance. The performers were so talented , unbelievably strong, and the choreography was split second timing with every move. I, along with the entire audience, were wowed throughout their performance. If you are in Ho Chi Minh City, please don’t miss out on this truly amazing acrobatic performance showcasing the best of Vietnamese culture. Bravo AO Show!

Located in bustling, modern District 1, Ho Chi Minh Municipal Theater was built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, retaining the splendor of Saigon's colonial architecture.
Despite the fact that in 1944 the theater was damaged as a result of Allied air attacks on the Japanese Imperial Army, and then was used as a temporary shelter for French civilians, and after the victory of the Revolutionary Government, for some time it was used as a meeting place for the People's Assembly, already in 1976 year it was returned to the status of a Theater.
In 1998 it was completely restored and now you can see one of the pearls of French colonial architecture in full splendor.

Beautiful opera house with excellent productions. We went to see the A O Show and it absolutely did not disappoint. We were expecting something more traditional, but the versatility of the production as it moved through eras of history was spectacular. Highly recommend a visit here.

The Saigon Opera house was built in 1898 in a grand French style. It has an interesting history as it served as the venue for the South Vietnamese national assembly from 1956 to 1975. It was restored as an opera house in 1976. The facade was renovated in 1998. The opera house today serves as the venue for the AO Bamboo Circus Show.

How is it possible to visit it without a show ticket? Is it there an entrance fee for a visit by day?
Written August 25, 2019
Yes, you can visit without a ticket.

Hi, is there any elevator in the opera house to get to 2nd floor? My mom has limited mobility and can not walk up stairs.
Thanks
Written June 6, 2019
If there is I did not see it. The theatre only hold 460 people. The upper section is a maximum of 4 rows. Honestly I’d stay down in the orchestra section.
There are several steps to climb up to the entryway but I do not recall any ramps.

I would think not as they warn about photography and noise during the show

How should I dress for this tour?
Written May 10, 2017
We wore what we would go out to dinner in ,not dressed up as such, but not too casual.
Written May 23, 2017
Can you book tickets online? The ticket office portion of the web page seems not to do anything if I click on a date. I'm using a mobile so not sure if this is the problem or if you just have to call.

Hi there, we are a family of 5 wanting to see the AO show. The nights that we would be able to go are the 22nd,23,24th June and the 5th July but these dates are not available for booking online. Are there shows on these nights that are booked out, or are there other shows on instead? The AO show has been highly recommended to us and we were very excited about going. Is there any other way of booking other than online? Is there a waiting list for cancellations? Kind regards Sue

Hi I thought the show was worth it. Very unique to the country. We just went to one of the many travel agents that can be found in small shops on almost all streets, when you get there. They will book travel tours and shows and they have networking in Vietnam like I have never seen anywhere else. If they don't have it they will know someone who can get you tickets. They just call the ticketing agents and work it out for you. If it's possible to get tickets while you're there they will get them. All over Vietnam you will find this networking, it's very convenient when you're looking for something as you basically have access to all the shops, if one doesn't have the color you want they will have a cousin or brother down the street who will have it, or can make it for you.
Also the hotel concierge is worth a try, although I think you will pay more for the tickets if the hotel arranges it. Good luck and enjoy your travel. Vietnam is fantastic.
