The Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon is an impressive French-era church completed in 1880. The 60-meter tall spires stand in classic style. Unfortunately, for current tourists, the building is undergoing a lengthy multi-year renovation and is shrouded in scaffolding. The church is closed to the public most of the time, but visitors can enter during the time of Masses on Sunday or 5:15 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. weekdays.

I visited Notre Dame Cathedral in Saigon, and while the cathedral's architecture is undeniably beautiful, the ongoing renovations took away some of the charm. The iconic twin spires are partially covered by scaffolding, making it difficult to fully appreciate the exterior. Inside, the atmosphere remains serene and offers a quiet respite from the city's hustle and bustle. Though the renovations are necessary, they do limit the overall experience. I look forward to returning once the work is completed to truly appreciate this historical landmark. Worth a visit if you're in the area, but manage your expectations during the renovation period.

It's one of the landmarks in the centre of Oh Chi Minh city. We went on a Sunday morning. Unfortunately they are refurbishing it so we couldn't even see the facade full of scaffoldings. The place is big, big square with a big statue of Mary in the centre, full of people.

The Cathedral is currently renovating its exteriors so all one sees are the scalffoldings. It was crowded when I visited it on Easter Sumday. I asked some people seated next to me about the time of the mass and what language would be used. Learned that It would start at 9:30 am and language to be used is English.

After the mass, I walked behind the Altar area. There are statues of saints in this area as well as in both sides of the front section. Outside are small gardens with flowering plants and a statue of Mary.

Unfortunately, this beautiful cathedral (Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral) is still closed and fenced off for renovations. That's why I only gave it 3 stars.
But you should go there anyway because the main post office is just to the right of it
and the "main street" Dong Khoi ends (or starts) here.

Our visit to this magnificent cathedral was breathtaking. The red brick facade and twin bell towers transported us straight to France. We particularly enjoyed sitting at the nearby coffee shops, admiring the architecture while sharing a Vietnamese coffee. Perfect for couples!

In October 2023, Notre Dame Cathedral was under a 10-year renovation, but you could attend mass. The times are on a sign at the front of the church at the gate to the construction site. Friday night mass was 35 minutes with a choir. A large church supply/book store and the beautiful Runam d'Or cafe are across the street from the cathedral.

The interior of the cathedral is underwhelming when compared to other cathedrals. The Catholic Church needs to pour some money into it to help it reach its potential. There is no wifi in or around the cathedral to get a taxi after mass during heavy rain.

It was one of the attractions in Ho Chi Minh City that we wanted to visit as the Cathedral is considered one of the most beautiful churches in Vietnam, unfortunately it was closed and completely covered with scaffolding, the only thing I could photograph is the side and the external nativity scene. The Basilica of Notre-Dame of Saigon was built by the French during the colonial period in the second half of the nineteenth century and has two very high bell towers of about 60 meters in neo-Romanesque style, with a beautiful square in front with the statue of the Virgin Mary. All the materials come from France , I could not appreciate the architectural details because covered with scaffolding , next to the POST is another attraction of the city, and in the surrounding area numerous souvenir stands .

The Notre Dame Cathedral, which is one of the main attractions in HCMC, is unfortunately currently a large construction site. The church is closed off from the outside and you can't visit the inside either. It was supposed to be finished by 2023, but I've heard it's been delayed until 2027. It's right next to the post office, so you can still stop by.

Despite the closed front doors and scaffolding, etc, this church is still open for Masses, especially on Sunday morning at 9.30am, in English.
Remember, this holy place is NOT an art gallery, so watch out how you dress and behave. Don't walk around during any service taking selfies and the like. The locals don't like this behaviour.
If you cant make it on any Sunday, there are plenty of other interesting Catholc chapels and churches around town, and all around Viet Nam, all with a very long history of Christianity. while early French Cathoic missionaries, Jesuits, built in Gothic and Romanistic styles, the newer build churches are very oriental in artecture. Yet the use of Latin inscriptions is interesting.
The most popular religious icon seems to be Polish in origin (Devine Mercy).
