About
On your guided tour of the Cu Chi Tunnels, you’ll learn about the history of this underground system. The tunnels were dug during the Vietnam War by Viet Cong soldiers as a way to move undetected and launch surprise attacks. Experience the tight squeeze firsthand by crawling through the tunnels, and fire assault rifles at the shooting range after. Pack bug spray and dress for hot and humid weather, arriving earlier in the day to beat the crowds and the afternoon sun. It's not recommended to visit the tunnels after a downpour, as the area will get very muddy.

We took this tour through our ship the Celebrity Solstice. It was listed as being 9 hours long. However, it took 4 hours to get there and 3 hours to get back! This left us approximately one hour of rushing around the compound and Tunnels, and about 40 minutes for a fast lunch. Traffic was bad in the morning and our restroom stop wasn’t till 3 hours after we left the port area! We did not stop anywhere in Ho Chi Minh City (where the locals still call it Saigon). But, what we saw from the bus, this city was run down in so many areas. Motorcycles were speeding everywhere and cutting close to the bus.
The Cu Chi Tunnels themselves were very cramped but interesting. They demonstrated how people moved about during the war, how they cooked and breathed in there without being detected. The guides also demonstrated how they set many deadly traps. This forested, jungle area has been well used by all the tourists that visit daily. At some information stops there were way too many groups trying to hear their guide or see what they were talking about. There is a shooting range where for a few dollars you can shoot an AK47. The constant loud shots actually sounded like a war was going on. On the property is also a big gift shop and a place where you can buy some food and drinks. Restrooms were not clean.
If you have mobility issues or don’t like sitting in a bus for hours, this type of tour (from the cruise port) might not be worth it. But, from a historical aspect it was interesting to see the area, learn about the tunnels, and way of life during the war.

Our tour was a speedboat trip with the Les Rives(LR) company.
They do pick ups in Quan(district) 1, which takes you to the drop off area at Ben Dach Dang.
We chose to walk as we were just over the road. The representatives of LR are sat just to the right of the rivertaxi security guard.
We cast off at 1120.
Quien was our guide for the day, assisted by the boat pilot and another LR representative.
We were offered various fruits and water for the journey of just under 1 and half hours.
On arriving at Cu Chi tunnels we went for lunch.
After lunch we toured the tunnels and various other points of interest.
Venturing through the tunnel complex is not difficult or claustrophobic in my opinion, you are led by a guide with torch.
There is also an opportunity to attend the live firing range. AK47 or M16.
Bullets are priced at 60000VND each. I took a full 30 round magazine, but stoppages interrupted my experience, so I was giving another full mag.
The tunnel tour finishes with tapioca and video.
On the trip back to Ho Chi Minh City again we were offered fruit water and Coke Cola.
Our timescale of the late morning departure meant we more or less had the site to ourselves.
The speedboat up the River Saigon was a great experience.

You can’t say that you’ve been to Saigon if you’ve never crawled through the Cuchi Tunnels. One of the most famous battlegrounds of the Vietnam War, this is the one sight apart from the War Remnants Museum that will leave the longest lasting impact on you even after you’re safely back home in your own beds. At times, it was hard to believe that these small, dark spaces were once home to entire communities, hidden deep underground from the chaos above. These tunnels were once used as living quarters, kitchens, hospitals, and even storage for weapons. It was incredible to think that such an intricate network was constructed with little more than basic tools and immense determination.
Highly recommended unless you're claustrophobic. Wear comfortable shoes because you’ll be doing a fair amount of walking, crawling- and the tunnels can be tricky to navigate. Be prepared for tight spaces, especially if you want to crawl through the smaller sections of the tunnels. The heat can be intense, so carry a bottle of water and take your time.
I’d also recommend going with a guide if possible. Their personal stories and deep knowledge of the tunnels give a whole new dimension to the visit. Without the guide’s context, I don't think I would have left with such a deep understanding of how the Cu Chi Tunnels were a symbol of survival and resilience.

We took the half-day tour from HCMC. The tunnels are smaller than expected - even the 'tourist-sized' ones had us crawling! Interesting to see the air vent systems and trap doors, though some parts felt a bit staged for tourists.
The shooting range is super loud (and pricey). Guide was informative but rushed through some parts. Trying the cassava was neat, but skip the propaganda video at the start.
Bring mosquito spray and water. Not great if you're claustrophobic!

Visiting the Cu Chi Tunnels with my family was an unforgettable experience that provided us with a fascinating insight into the ingenuity and resilience of the Vietnamese people during the Vietnam War. The tunnels, which stretch over 200 kilometers, were used by the Viet Cong as a base for operations, a hideout, and a place to store supplies. It was incredible to see how the network of tunnels was constructed and used in such challenging conditions.
Our tour began with a brief introduction about the history of the Cu Chi Tunnels, explaining how they were built by hand, using basic tools, and without any modern technology. The guide shared stories about how the tunnels were designed with various chambers for living, cooking, and even medical treatment, showing how resourceful the Viet Cong were. It was fascinating to learn about the different traps that were set up around the tunnels to protect against invaders, many of which were still on display.
As we ventured deeper into the tunnels, we were able to crawl through a section of the tunnel that had been expanded for visitors. It was a tight and claustrophobic experience, but it gave us a real sense of what it must have been like to live and fight in those tunnels. My family and I marveled at how such a small and confined space could serve as a home and a battleground for so many.
One of the highlights was seeing the display of various weapons and tools used by the Viet Cong. We also had the opportunity to try some traditional Vietnamese snacks that were prepared the same way they would have been during the war.
The tour was both educational and eye-opening, especially for the kids, who learned firsthand about the hardships faced by those who lived through the war. It was a somber reminder of the realities of war, but it also showcased the incredible strength and determination of those who fought for their freedom.
Overall, the Cu Chi Tunnels is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Ho Chi Minh City. It's an experience that brings history to life in a way that is engaging and thought-provoking for visitors of all ages.

We went to visit the Cu Chi Tunnels as part of an organised tour. All travel agents appear to recommend the visit as an essential element of a trip to Saigon / Ho Chi Minh City. The tunnels are an important feature of the history of the Vietnam War (or the American War as it is known here). The ingenuity and resiliance of the Vietnamese people is astonishing. However, I am not certain that the tour itself is a first rate destination. There are a lot of reconstructions, with models of guerrilla fighters. Tunnels have been recreated for tourists. There is not a huge amount of original material. The sound on some of the videos is of poor quality and there is a fair amount of propaganda in the content. I do not wish to deny the courage and suffering of the people of the time but in my opinion the tour is overrated. It was not clear to us that the site is on hour and a half's drive away from the city. It was very busy. The tour itself is too long. And the opportunity to try shooting is distasteful.

I visited the Cu Chi Tunnel complex from Saigon. We ordered a Grab car from the Majestic Hotel direct rather than joining a group tour. It takes 90 minutes to get there and our driver dropped us off at the ticket office. The site provides guides and we walked through the site. We finished at the shooting range, it’s a complete tourist trap and massively overpriced but where can you shoot an AK47 with little or no training. £2 per bullet absolutely amazing experience. Personally if you can travel independently do, expect to be squeezed by the staff, they have to make a living. A fantastic experience, if you are travelling to HCMC Saigon this is worth the effort and expense.

The Guide takes you around the site and gives you a brief history of tunnels. You can try going in one of the many escape hatches and a chance to experience the tunnels themselves.
The cafe half way round serves cold drinks and snacks but its a tad noisy as its next to the firing range!

But I wasn't as impressed as I expected. The inside of the tunnel was quite narrow and dark, so I felt uncomfortable in the hot weather. Especially the hospital district was interesting, but it was too crowded with tourists that it was difficult to see properly. Overall, the historical significance is great, but I thought I wish I could explore it more freely.

i joined an half day tour last year in November with shintourists. it is the seond time i visited cu chi tunnels , the first time is 2017, that time i joined the whole day tour, besides cu chi tunnels,i also visited cao dai temple. after pandemic, i can't find any tour to cao dai temple. so joined cu chi tunnels instead. as a military headquarters, Cu Chi Tunnels played a pivotal role in the Vietnamese forces' resistance to the American army in South Vietnam. the tour first stopped at an artisan's workshop who produces and sells artefacts. The artisans were born with serious birth defects caused by America's use of Agent Orange. i bought an item done by them. after that we head to cu chi tunnels. the guide explained everything about the site, i had chance to poke my head through camouflaged trapdoors, and crawling through military supply tunnels. after that we tried some boiled sweetened tapioca. i will come here again, quite interesting tour, highly recommended!

My husband is built like an NFL player (6’3” and 275 lbs) and made it through, however he had to go on his hands and knees as the tunnel was not wide enough for his shoulders otherwise. It is definitely tight, even for me and I am 5’4” and 125 lbs.

How wide are the tunnels? Is there a size restriction for generously sized adults ?

hi, I have booked a trip with Vietnam adventure tours. I know the location to be picked up but when the guide is over, do they give me a ride back?
Written October 18, 2022
Yes I imagine they will drop you back. That is the normal convention

Is it necessary to book a tour? or can I just show up and purchase tickets? I have transportation available, so this would not be an issue, just want to understand if a tourguide is indispensable, and if it has to be booked in advance

Planning on visiting here from Hoi An. Any ideas on how to get here and what is the easiest way to?

You will need to go with an organized tour. I’d suggest making a booking. It’s well outside of downtown Saigon. It took us 3 hours to get to the tunnels from our hotel. We went with a private tour.

Hi, am planning for the half day cu chi tunnels trip with my wife and 2 year old child and have 2 queries
1. My wife is pregnant, is the trip suitable for pregnant woman ( she would definitely NOT prefer entering any tunnels and would just enjoy the rest of the tour)
2. Will we be allowed to participate in firing range as my sole purpose visiting the tunnels is to fire a mk60
Written December 17, 2019
The highlight of the tour is going/crawling to the tunnel. That said, your pregnant wife with not be able to experience that. As for the two-year-old, she/he may get bored especially with the long bus ride there plus the actual hike that is sometimes mosquito-ridden,
As for the firing range, there is Saigon Sniper if that is what you want to do!
