A remaining remnant of the protective walled ramparts which once surrounded Hanoi. It’s a wonder that it was preserved. Quite massive.

Most of the attractions look like they value something and they are somehow detached from the surrounding landscape/environment/area. It is not the same for the Old city gate. It is naturally inscribed in the urban environment. I would not say it is something special but...More

This is a gate that differentiate the boundary of old district and other districts. Somewhat far away from hoan kiem lake. It is really tiny gate.

A pretty piece of history set in the increasingly modern, bustling Hà Nội. Rather underwhelming compared to other sites, however.

The old city gate of Hanoi is rather underwhelming, as it is now part of a big chaotic area with constant scooters' honking. It's almost impossible to appreciate the gate for more than a minute, as the place is usually packed.
