Quite an interesting structure and area which is undergoing archaeological excavations currently. Interesting that this was Vietnam’s royal citadel before it was moved to Hue. The more recent underground bunkers were very interesting. Enjoy.

A good insight into the scale and sophistication of Vietnamese culture and history, there is still a lot of excavation going on but the visitor can get a very good and clear appreciation of the site and the history.

The main gate of the citadel. It is way bigger than the one in old quarter. A must visit if you love old architecture.

We found the whole citadel really interesting. Some of the buildings are lovely and the museum areas fascinating. The underground bunkers and bomb shelters were of particular interest to my grandsons.

When one stands here, at this gate, one has to imagine that that large block left of the citadel was, indeed huge! The gates are standard with royalty to enter through the middle on horseback, in carriages and such while the two sides are for...More

We got to see the North Gate when visiting the old section of Hanoi on our last day and it is not in good shape. As with most of the Old Ancient section of Hanoi, in years to come this will be the Bushwick/SoHo of...More
