This is a nice area in Hanoi but not sure the price is worth it. Big open areas with som wold buildings and not a lot else to see. Not one of my standouts.

A must see if you are on the north side of town. Be sure to read the plaque about the history of the gate. It is just huge and certainly means business.

The central old citadel of Hanoi was the former residence of Vietnamese monarchs dating back to Dai Ai Viet, when the city was known as Thang Long.

Quite an interesting structure and area which is undergoing archaeological excavations currently. Interesting that this was Vietnam’s royal citadel before it was moved to Hue. The more recent underground bunkers were very interesting. Enjoy.

A good insight into the scale and sophistication of Vietnamese culture and history, there is still a lot of excavation going on but the visitor can get a very good and clear appreciation of the site and the history.

The main gate of the citadel. It is way bigger than the one in old quarter. A must visit if you love old architecture.
