Colloquially known as "Hanoi Hilton," this famous prison has been mostly torn down. A museum occupies the remaining structure.

My partner and I visited this museum yesterday and much enjoyed the visit. Got lost trying to find but it’s an easy city to get lost in. Well worth spending an hour here. Lots of interesting info about the French and American times. Very political.

Didn’t expect much from this as most of the prison has been knocked down for a new modern office building however it’s still a decent tour. Lots of information and very interesting insight into life as a prisoner. Recommend a visit when in Hanoi.

The Hanoi Hilton as the Americans called had much more than just the American war, it took in French colonialism and much more. Only about one third of it remains but a fascinating place to visit. Many thanks to pure buddies guides for taking us...More

Interesting site with details on history. However the details on items was limited. It would be good if there were guided tours or videos.

My scooter guide introduced me to the museum, and I walked around as a weary tourist, and although dismayed at the years of colonial brutality did not really linger and cruised off to the shop and bought an excellent propaganda postcode. Then I saw a...More

When Westerners think of involvement in Vietnam, the American invasion inevitably comes to mind. Rarely is the French occupation considered. The Vietnamese were treated appallingly by the French colonialists. This prison (of which only a small part of the original remains) was to house both...More

This is very badly presented and there is no truthful line of history or facts but just a bunch of propaganda about the glorious martyrs. It is so disappointing when you are not presented with a factual account but merely an embelished story line for...More

Amazing in a tragic sort of way...very creepy...the cells and pictures and torture items. Most things are complimented with both Vietnamese and English descriptions which is great and allows you to tour the place on your own

Be ready to witness some horrifying details of how prisoners were treated and kept in the most inhuman ways. There is lots of information about Vietnam's fight to freedom. The place is depressing as well as inspiring. Worth a visit !

You can certainly do this by yourself. We chose a half day city tour that included the prison and other important landmarks in Hanoi. The benefit was that we had an English speaking guide who was very knowledgeable and... More

It seems you can just walk right up. We were with a group, but there were individuals there as well.
