Wat Pha Lat is a beautiful Temple nested in Chiang Mai western hills, half way from downtown to Wat Doi Suthep which is on the top. Therefore I suggest visiting both temples at the same time.
Wat Pha Lat is a very serene and tranquil Temple set in the woods, and is also known as the Hidden Temple. It's calmer and less visited than others which makes your visit more enjoyable. It dates back to Lanna period and is located around a small waterfall, with a monastery attached as well.
You can reach it in 20 min taxi ride or take a hike through the woods.

Beautiful temples, well worth the visit. Walk up via the monks trail which takes about 30-40mins and isn’t too strenuous. It’s shaded but still hot. Lots of temples to explore at the top.

We continued to walk all the way to Doi Suthep - we weren’t prepared for how difficult the walk was and how long it would take (pictures of the path below). If you’re incredibly fit and go early in the morning (before 8am at least) it’s enjoyable - we wouldn’t do the full walk again, but enjoyed the views!

Do not miss. We loved this temple in the middle of the forest. Its statues are magnificent, the forest sings all around, we move from discovery to discovery as we progress and descend towards the valley. This peaceful place seems less visited than the Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple which in our opinion is nothing exceptional if we compare it to the Royal Palace in Bangkok. Too many people and gold everywhere which offers no originality compared to the other temples. On the other hand, Wat Pha Lat is a little wonder in the heart of the forest! To visit without fail!

Nestled in a lush green mountain away from the chaos of Chiang Mai’s city streets lies Wat Pha Lat, a jungle temple paradise. Jungle temples, as opposed to community temples that are found in the city, serve primarily as a calm place for monks to live and meditate. With old stone buildings, intricate carvings and statues, and plenty of breathtaking places to meditate, it’s clear why people claim Wat Pha Lat is a hidden gem in Chiang Mai.

The stroll took us around forty minutes to complete and was rather leisurely. Wat Pha Lat was a serene and lovely place. Wat Pha Lat is a much more challenging trek, so it's recommended taking a break here before continuing. The Wat is gorgeously tucked away among the surrounding waterfalls.

This temple is said to have been built where an elephant is said to have collapsed while being ridden by King Kuena, who was transporting Buddha relics to Doi Suthep. Originally, the temple was used as a stopping point to rest on their pilgrimage to Doi Suthep, but is now also renown as a meditation retreat. The grounds are surround by forest and the temples are much more muted in their decorations compared to other Thai temples

Those visiting Wat Phra That Doi Suthep should not miss Wat Pha Lat. On the way back towards Chiang Mai you will pass this temple, which attracts nowhere near as many visitors. Admission is free of charge. Very nice temple complex located in the jungle with a stream flowing through the grounds. Highly recommended.

In our opinion the most beautiful place to visit in Chiang Mai. Hidden in the middle of nature this place is really peaceful and invites relaxation and meditation. There are few tourists, the buildings are very beautiful and the nature is beautiful. We can talk to the monks who live there. A little air of Bali...

We popped in our way to Doi Suthep and really enjoyed the peaceful ambiance. There were lots of people sketching on the waterfall. I actually preferred this to the much busier Doi Suthep even though a lot of it is in disrepair.
