    Tribute to a great designer
In the middle of Bangkok city, Jim Thompson foundation kept his trove of six beautiful Thai structures well maintained with a well managed tour guide crew. We are able to learn about how JIm Thompson's story and see his collection of Asian and Thailand artifects. There is also a boutique which sells his designs and collections. Definitely recommended for a 90-120 minute visit
Dear WaiMingLoke, Thank you very much for your review. We truly appreciate hearing about the experience that you had. We hope for the opportunity to welcome you again in the near future. Best Regards, Phenarpa A.

Good & well worth visiting - but almost a victim of it’s own success…
Good & well worth visiting - but almost a victim of it’s own success… There is a big business behind this rustic collection of lovely buildings - the gift shop almost dwarfs the original buildings. P.S. top tip get a tuk- tuk to the river and arrive at the main palace by riverboat!

    Worth a look
Interesting little museum with a number of old style Thai houses and decorated in similar style. Possibly a bit more commercial than Jim planned. Hope they still support local charities as he originally planned. Worth a visit. (Not really wheelchair friendly.
Dear camper11-11, Thank you for visiting our museum and sharing your feedback with us. We're delighted to hear that you found our museum interesting. Your appreciation means a lot to us. We would like to address your concern regarding wheelchair accessibility. As Jim Thompson House museum is an old teak Thai house, it poses limitations in terms of accommodating wheelchairs due to its architectural structure. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. However, we do have an elevator available in the areas such as the restaurant, our retail shop and Jim Thompson Art Center which are wheelchair accessible. We strive to ensure that all our visitors can enjoy their time at our location. Regarding your mention of Mr.Jim Thompson's original plans to support local charities, we are proud to continue his legacy. We actively collaborate with and support various local organizations and initiatives that align with his vision. Giving back to the community is an integral part of our mission. Once again, we appreciate your visit and your feedback. We hope that you had an overall positive experience at Jim Thompson House museum. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Warm regards, Phenarpa A.

Jim Thompson House - a tourist attraction in the center of Bangkok
Jim Thompson's house in Bangkok is a tourist attraction located in the very center of the capital of Thailand. This place attracts both with its unique appearance and the story of its owner, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Attention is drawn to the unusual architecture of the property and the historic exhibits are delightful. Paintings, ceramics and everyday objects are also an opportunity to learn about Jim Thompson's interests and the history and culture of Thailand. That's why it's a great idea to include the museum in your plans to visit Bangkok. Amazing and beautiful place.
Dear leshy-travel, Thank you very much for your feedback and the 5 stars you gave us. We are delighted to hear about your experience at the Jim Thompson House and we hope to welcome you back again in the near future. Best Regards, Phenarpa A. Marketing Manager

Lovely oasis in the middle of Bangkok
We always visit here when we are in Bangkok. This time we didn’t do the tour but just enjoyed a coffee and snack in the cafe which has been relocated. The shop has been renovated and now an upstairs with some lovely photos and other displays. It is easy to get to from the Sky Train. Leave at National Stadium station, exit 1 and it is then a 5 minute walk.

    Mystery man
A very informative guided tour explains the main areas of this beautiful residence. However the biggest mystery is the cause of death of Mr Thompson. The cafe makes a nice iced latte and the shop has beautiful silk for sale.

    Amazing artwork
We had an excellent tour with a guide who spoke very good English. She gave us a run-down of Jim Thompson's life, then led the group through the house (actually five attached buildings). She was very knowledgeable about the architecture, Thompson's lifestyle, and the massive art collection which filled the house and was collected from all over south-east Asia. We next went outside to the gardens, a true oasis in the middle of the city. There was a room which detailed Thompson's life and his influence on the Thai silk industry, and we ended the tour at a large shop selling the silk goods still produced by the factory.

Beautiful buildings with lots of historic info. Lynn was an exceptional tour guide, funny, engaging, and informative. Would recommend to anyone in BKK for their first visit. Real close to the river as well!

    It’s not a temple!
Our family of four (17 YO girl and 14 YO boy) visited the Jim Thompson house and museum. The house and the history behind it are worth the visit on their own, but after two full days of visiting temples it was a very welcome change of scenery for the kids. The tour only takes about 45 minutes (there is no A/C but there are a few fans) and it ends in a gloriously air conditioned gift shop. The house is walking distance from several multi-level shopping malls, so you can take the tour when the house opens in the morning and go to the mall for lunch afterwards. They require you to go on a guided tour - the English version was given every 20 or 30 minutes when we were there. Highly recommended!
Dear TGS1969, Thank you very much for visiting the Jim Thompson House and taking the time to give us a review of your visit. Besides the Jim Thompson House you’ll also be able to find our restaurants, Iconic Store, Jim Thompson Art center all located within the Jim Thompson Heritage Quarter which might be of interest to you. Jim Terrace During This “Rainy” Season
Lovely quite place in a noisy city. Everyone speaks great English here, I even heard staff speaking in Chinese to other costumers. The food was well cook and seasoned definitely Thai, my father actually recommended me this place while I was in Bangkok. I hope to come back here soon with my family :) it’s perfect for anyone at any age.

This is a great place, Firstly you have his house made from a collection of ancient Thai houses and full of high quality Thai artifacts. It has a great tropical garden.
Then you have the silk shop showing the value of him saving the Thai silk industry, beautiful clothes and textiles.
The cafe and restaurant are very good and often near the fishpond or established tropical gardens.
Next door is the art gallery showing mainly Thai art

This place was amazing, so interesting, it was so much better than I expected although I had read that it was worth a visit. We took the water taxi from our hotel and it was a 5 min walk from the taxi stop which is signposted with an arrow pointing towards Jim Thompson house. When you arrive it’s like a peaceful calming place in the heart of Bangkok. The buildings are amazing and the guide who takes you round telling you the history of the buildings and artefacts is really knowledgeable. It’s a very sad story of how Mr Thompson goes missing and has never been found, but amazing how he revived the silk trade in Thailand. Definitely worth a visit, the best thing we did in Bangkok, the Palace is very interesting but this place is much more “real”

This was my favorite thing that I did in Thailand!
I really did not think this was going to be my thing! The hotel we stayed in was really close and we had a couple of hours to kill so I took my wife.

I enjoyed every second!!!
The guide was fantastic, her English was perfect, making jokes and conveying information brilliantly.
The house was beautiful and it's history is fantastic.
It was such a calm and serene experience, my wife and I were there for hours and it seemed like only minutes.

So forget going to Muay Thai fights, street food, or what ever you are into.
Come and be surprised, relax in the gardens, admire the house.

I visit Thailand and Bangkok pretty much annually. Really sad to see that the lunchtime menu has deteriorated a lot. Used to be able to order things like fried rice and Spring Rolls, not anymore, it all been replaced by obscure "fancy dining". Whatever it was I chose was vastly over priced and tasteless!

This is a great place to visit and pick up how Thai silk was promoted worldwide through one man’s foresight as well as seeing how he lived in Thailand and his collection of antiques.
The visit is 200 baht (£4.20) per person and is great value. An excellent guided tour is given (different times throughout the day for each of 5 languages) which last about 45 minutes and then one is free to wander around - good coffee shop, restaurant and gift shop on site.
Very helpful staff helped us get taxi back to hotel.

A fascinating visit, not only because it is one of the few remaining wooden Thai houses in Bangkok, but because of the silk. The house is straight out of a Somerset Maughan storty - truly atmospheric.

The Jim Thompson house was the very last thing we squeezed in after three weeks in Asia, and I'm so glad we fit it in. The grounds and home aren't large, you don't need a ton of time. The house tour is guided (about 45 minutes), and it covers part of the gardens too. 200 Baht for the tour, and you don't need reservations. Last stop is the gift shop! Thompson made his name and fortune with silk, so no surprise that there is lots of beautiful Jim Thompson silk for sale. I got a scarf that I absolutely love.

There is also a cafe on site, so you can get a little something to eat or something to drink before or after your tour. Neat place, we had fun.

You can only visit the houses as part of a tour group. When we arrived (11.30am on a Sunday) we had to wait 1 hour for the next tour, but we sat in the nice garden and drank coffee from the cafe while we waited. The houses are very well preserved. The tour went at a good pace (even for our 10 year old). A nice way to spend a couple of hours.
