This temple is ornamented in a way that leaves every Spanish or Mexican cathedral look like a naked garage. Every inch is decorated with details, which must have cost a fortune. The small smaragd statue (about 15 inches high) is the center of devotion inside. Actually, the temple is the major attraction of the palast complex. While THB 500 is quite an entrance fee for Thai proportions, it is definitely worth it.

Emerald Buddha can be seen as part of a visit to the Grand Palace (THB 500/person, credit card accepted). Strict dress code. Go early before it gets too crowded/hot.

Impressive statue where the public can sit and pay their respects. A small statue which is dressed according to the time of year. A very important place for the Thai people.

A bit disappointing. While a very beautiful layout, access to the interior of the buildings is very limited. Wat Phra Kaew is a bit better but we visited better temples. One plus point is that we were expecting crowds and by going at opening time the experience was actually very pleasant.

It is kind of a 'got to see" place but expensive, a little heavy handed on the dress code and well, I have been a few times so am probably a bit jaded.

It's not really worth it. 500 baths . Thsts £12.50. Not included transport. Too many temples. Gets boring and pointless. No real history behind most of them.

A temple in the middle of a large palace complex, watch out for opening times, we walked around the boundary and couldn't find a way in, then found it had closed early. Went back the next day and glad we did, atmospheric, interesting and not overly expensive to enter. Recommended.

The Temple complex that includes the Emerald Buddha is a must see on any visit to Bangkok. The entrance staff will provide an excellent guide pamphlet that can be used for a self-guided visit, but having a knowledgeable guide can add to the experience, and especially when you have questions. Advise that you go early to avoid the crowds. That was our experience and it payed off. As you approach midday, the increase in crowds is dramatic.

we had an English speaking guide from the Trails of Indochina who added so much value to the experience with his knowledge Exterior temple details are amazing as is the Emerald Buddha (which is actually jade) Despite the heat they are very attentive to what guests are wearing and you must adhere to their definition of respectful clothing, down to if you are wearing sandals they must have a ankle or heel strap) I even saw men pulled from the line as they were not compliant So be sure to know what is forbidden to wear before you go

To visit the wat phra kaew grand palace and other temples, do we need to book a tour? Or can we just take a Tuk from place to place and buy tickets there??

You can easily do it on your own! Just as you said, take a Tuk or a taxi from place to place, but make sure you negotiate the price with the driver before hand. Enjoy it!
Are there any shops nearby?
